Educational programmes on artificial intelligence are to be launched in Turkmenistan
14.07.2026In Turkmenistan, 20 new degree programmes and fields of study will be launched at the country’s higher education institutions in the 2026–2027 academic year. This was reported by the news website Turkmenportal. The International University of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs will begin offering a bachelor’s degree in ‘Artificial Intelligence and Expert Systems’. The Polytechnic Secondary Specialised Educational Institution of the Ministry of Communications will launch a degree programme in ‘Artificial Intelligence and Data Analysis’. These new educational programmes are being introduced in response to the growing demand within Turkmenistan’s economy for qualified specialists in various fields.
Turkmenistan is set to increase student intake at the country’s universities
14.07.2026In 2026, higher education institutions in Turkmenistan plan to enrol over 18,000 students. This was reported by the news website Turkmenportal. This is 1,239 more than last year, when around 17,000 applicants were admitted to higher education institutions. Plans for admissions to higher education institutions and vocational training establishments in Turkmenistan for the new academic year have already been approved. The admissions campaign will run from 13 July to 24 August. Entrance examinations for applicants will be organised directly at the relevant educational institutions.
Turkmen teachers took part in a training programme at an international seminar in China
14.07.2026Young teachers and academics from Turkmenistan took part in the international seminar ‘Chinese Language Teaching for Central Asian Countries’, which was held in Beijing. This was reported by the IIC of Turkmenistan. As part of the programme, participants learnt about modern methods of teaching Chinese, the HSK testing system and the use of digital technologies in education. In addition to the training sessions, a cultural programme was organised for the teachers, including visits to historical sites and lectures on Chinese traditions. Following the seminar, the Turkmen specialists acquired new professional skills, which they plan to apply in educational practice in Turkmenistan.
School pupils from Turkmenistan won medals at the ‘Copernicus’ Olympiad in Singapore
13.07.2026School pupils from Turkmenistan made a successful debut at the 7th International ‘Copernicus’ Mathematics Olympiad, the global stage of which took place in Singapore from 22 to 27 June. This was reported by the news agency Orient. In the competition, which brought together participants from more than 13 countries, the Turkmenistan team won six medals: one gold, three silver and two bronze. Ayjeren Muhammatnazarova, a pupil at the ‘Belent Bilim’ Educational Centre in Mary, won the gold medal and the title of ‘Absolute Winner’ in her age category. The silver medallists were Davut Muhammatnazarov (‘Belent Bilim’, Mary), Geldimyrat Saryev (School No. 135, Ashgabat) and Emirmuhammet Sabyrov (School No. 35, Hazar, Balkan velayat). Bronze medals were won by Ahmet Bagtiyarov (School No. 135, Ashgabat) and Melike Begliyeva (School No. 97, Ashgabat). The ‘Copernicus Olympiad’ is one of the most prestigious international competitions, where school pupils demonstrate their knowledge, logical thinking and skills in solving complex mathematical problems.
A school pupil from Turkmenistan has won a prize at the IMEC Olympiad
12.07.2026Nuryagdy Meredov, a Year 3 pupil at Ashgabat Specialised Secondary School No. 130, won a silver medal at the ‘International Mathematics Excellence Competition’ (IMEC), which took place from 26 to 30 June 2026 in Kuala Lumpur. This was reported by the news website Turkmenportal. The Turkmen schoolboy came second in the ‘logical mathematics’ category. Pupils from 22 countries took part in the competition. IMEC 2026 is open to primary and secondary school pupils. The competition aims to foster an interest in mathematics, as well as logical and analytical thinking, among schoolchildren.
The Italian Ambassador to Turkmenistan met with the leadership of the IUHD
11.07.2026Martin Brook, Italy’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkmenistan, visited the International University for the Humanities and Development, where he held a meeting with the rector and the university’s management. This was reported on the Turkmenportal website. During the negotiations, the parties discussed expanding scientific and educational cooperation, developing academic exchanges and implementing joint projects between universities in the two countries. Particular attention was paid to exchanging experience with Italian universities in the fields of the humanities, international relations, diplomacy and the global economy. The participants also discussed ways of promoting the Italian language, culture and history, as well as improving educational programmes. Martin Brook was appointed Italy’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkmenistan in April 2026, succeeding Luigi Ferrari in this post.
IUOG students are undertaking work placements in the UAE
10.07.2026From 1 to 10 July, students from the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas are undertaking a work-based learning placement in Abu Dhabi as part of the ‘Summer Energy Camp for International Students’ programme, organised by Khalifa University in the UAE. This was reported by the news agency ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’. The placement aims to familiarise students with the activities of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Khalifa University, as well as to study their expertise in the fields of education, science and oil and gas production. During the placement, students are studying modern technologies in the oil and gas sector and the application of artificial intelligence in the energy sector, whilst also familiarising themselves with the university’s research, laboratories, training centres and museums. The programme also includes visits to ADNOC’s production facilities, an aerospace laboratory, 3D printing laboratories and maintenance facilities. In addition, participants undertake short courses on renewable energy, well drilling, oil and gas engineering, and the properties of reservoir fluids. The knowledge and practical skills gained contribute to the professional training of future specialists in the oil and gas sector and to the development of cooperation between leading universities in Turkmenistan and the United Arab Emirates.
Students from Turkmenistan are undertaking summer work placements in Italy
09.07.2026International cooperation in the field of education is opening up new opportunities for students in Turkmenistan to study and undertake work placements abroad. This has been reported by the press office of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan. One example is the Memorandum of Understanding between the International University for the Humanities and Development (IUHD) and the Kent State University. Under the agreement, IUHD students undertake a summer placement at the Kent State University branch in Florence (Italy). The programme allows them to combine theoretical training with the development of practical skills in an international educational environment. During their studies, students are introduced to modern professional approaches, attend lectures given by international lecturers, improve their foreign language skills and exchange experiences with peers from different countries.
Students from South Korea were introduced to the Turkmen language and culture
09.07.2026The summer placement programme for students from Kangwon National University in the Republic of Korea has come to an end at the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages. This was reported by the news website Turkmenportal. The programme was organised as part of a cooperation agreement between the two universities and was aimed at developing academic ties and cultural exchange. During the programme, the Korean students studied the Turkmen language and culture and familiarised themselves with the institute’s teaching methods, whilst students and lecturers from the Turkmen National Institute of World Languages exchanged experiences with their colleagues from the Republic of Korea. According to Ogulsabyr Berdiyeva, a lecturer at the university, the programme marked an important step in strengthening cooperation between the two countries, opening up new opportunities for academic exchange and joint projects.
Teachers in Turkmenistan have received awards for their contribution to climate education
09.07.2026Teachers from Turkmenistan have won prizes at the 3rd International Competition for the Development of Teaching Materials on Climate Change, organised by the UNDP Istanbul Regional Hub as part of the ‘Climate Box’ initiative. This was reported by the news website Turkmenportal. UNDP’s Resident Representative in Turkmenistan, Narine Sahakyan, presented the winners with certificates and commemorative gifts. First place went to teachers from School No. 11 in Turkmenabat, second place to School No. 55 in Ashgabat, and third place to School No. 2 in Farap. The participants’ work was recognised for its innovative approaches to teaching climate-related topics and fostering environmental responsibility among schoolchildren. The ‘Climate Box’ educational kit, adapted into Turkmen and Russian, has been prepared for use in schools across the country.

This was reported by the press office of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan. The parties discussed the development of scientific and educational cooperation, the expansion of academic exchanges, and the implementation of joint projects between universities in Turkmenistan and Italy. Particular attention was paid to the exchange of experience with Italian higher education institutions in the fields of the humanities, international relations, diplomacy and the global economy. The participants also discussed ways of promoting Italian culture, history and language, as well as improving study programmes. The negotiations marked a further step towards strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties between Turkmenistan and the Italian Republic.
An educational programme for students from Turkmenistan has got underway in Abu Dhabi
08.07.2026Students from the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas have begun a short-term specialised programme at Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi. This was reported by the news agency Orient. The project has been implemented by the Emirati side with the support of the UAE Embassy in Turkmenistan and is aimed at developing cooperation in the field of high technology and training personnel for the oil and gas sector. On 6 July, Bayram Bayramov, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the UAE, met with the students, emphasising the importance of educational cooperation in strengthening relations between the two countries. The diplomat emphasised the government’s support for young people and the importance of acquiring cutting-edge knowledge and modern technologies, and wished the programme participants every success in their studies and professional careers.
