Aynur Baltayeva, a mathematics and computer science teacher at Specialised Secondary School No. 19 in the Danew etrap of the Lebap velayat, won first prize at the ‘Golden Formula’ international competition, which took place in Berlin in February. As part of a working visit, a delegation from the International University for the Humanities and Development held a meeting with the leadership of the University of Westminster, where they discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation. An educational meeting was held at the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages, attended by Aleksey Sanchez, Political Affairs Officer at the US Embassy in Turkmenistan. Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the US diplomatic mission also joined the discussion. The main topic of the meeting was Aleksey Sanchez’s presentation on the influence of Spanish cultural heritage on the formation of modern US culture. He spoke about the tradition of celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States and the role of the Spanish language in the country’s literature, art and public life. Separately, the Diplomat presented an overview of the cultural and historical characteristics of South American countries, focusing on the diversity of regional dialects of the Spanish language. A discussion took place during the meeting. Students asked questions about the literary norms of the Spanish language and its linguistic features in different countries.
Martin Sajdik, representative of the Austrian Institute for European Diplomacy and Security Policy, paid a working visit to Ashgabat. The main purpose of the trip was to prepare a cooperation agreement between this organisation and the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. This was reported by the publication ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’. During his visit, the Diplomat visited the State Museum of the State Cultural Centre of Turkmenistan, the Turkmen Carpet Museum, the ‘Köne Nusaý’ Historical and Cultural Centre, and the Ahal-Teke Equestrian Sports Complex. The International University for the Humanities and Development (IUHD) is expanding its participation in the international educational space. As part of the ‘Erasmus+’ programme, students Yhlas Komekov and Soltanmyrat Tairov have been sent to Italy for five months of study at the G. D'Annunzio University of Chieti–Pescara. This exchange is the first collaboration between IUHD and an Italian university, opening up new opportunities for educational and cultural exchange. The opening ceremony of the second regional training course for young diplomats from Central Asian countries was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (IIR MFA) of Turkmenistan in Ashgabat. Teachers from Turkmen universities are participating in the British Council Partnership Summit in Tashkent, which is being held from 4 to 8 March as part of the ‘AELLCA’ educational project to improve the quality of English language teaching in Central Asia. On 4 March, students from the Oguz Han University of Engineering and Technology in Turkmenistan took part in an educational session organised by the UNDP. The session discussed the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies for social and economic development, according to IIC. UNDP international expert Tristan Post spoke about the impact of AI on education, public services and the market for future professions. He emphasised the importance of digital skills, an ethical approach and the responsible use of technology. Students discussed the evolution of AI, from the first systems to modern advanced technologies. Particular attention was paid to new professions, skills that will be in demand in the future, and the overall impact of automation on the labour market and society. The session was part of a series of educational events entitled ‘Youth and Digital Transformation: Innovation for Sustainable Development,’ which will be held in 2026 in collaboration with the Engineering and Technology University as part of a Memorandum of Understanding between UNDP and the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan.
Turkmenistan has joined the list of countries participating in the fifth round of the ‘Hero Training’ international acceleration programme. The initiative is being implemented with the participation of Astana Hub, IT Park Uzbekistan and Draper University. This was reported by IIC. The programme will bring together 11 technology start-ups from Central Asia and the Caucasus. Among them are projects from Turkmenistan, which will have the opportunity to undergo intensive training in Silicon Valley and expand their access to foreign markets. ‘Hero Training’ is designed to last five weeks and includes workshops, strategic sessions, meetings with investors and mentoring support. Participants also undergo a practical module called ‘Survival Week with Sea Lions,’ aimed at developing leadership and team skills. According to the organisers, over the years the programme has attracted more than 260 applications, and 41 start-ups have undergone full-time acceleration at Draper University. Graduates have already attracted over $3 million in investment and launched sales in international markets. The participation of Turkmen projects in ‘Hero Training’ expands their access to the global startup ecosystem, international investors and partner networks. The programme is expected to help teams accelerate product growth and prepare for entry into the US market.
On 3 March, the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages hosted a symposium entitled ‘Accelerating English Language Teaching in Central Asia: Introducing Inclusive Methods into the PRESETT System.’ The forum was held as part of the AELLCA project, according to IIC. The opening ceremony was attended by the Rector of the institute and the British Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkmenistan, Stephen Conlon. The importance of educational cooperation for training specialists and developing bilateral relations was discussed. Nottingham Trent University was a partner of the forum. Its representatives, Dr. Sarah Khan and Martin Seviour, presented inclusive methodologies and training modules developed jointly with Turkmen specialists. The programmes are aimed at improving the training of future teachers in the PRESETT system. All sessions were held in English. The practical part included group work and analysis of inclusive education models. The forum ended with a panel discussion involving teachers from different regions of the country and international experts. The organisers announced that cooperation with British partners would continue.
