Turkmen scientists receive awards at WYSII 2026 competition in Bangkok

Representatives of the Oguz Han University of Engineering and Technology in Turkmenistan received awards at the World Youth STEM Invention Innovation (WYSII 2026), which took place in Bangkok from 29 January to 2 February. This was reported by the publication ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’. Patma Igdyrova, a trainee lecturer at the Department of Chemical Technology, spoke at the INTERACT 2026 International Conference, which was held as part of the forum. She presented her research on ‘Investigating Methods of Extracting Bioactive Compounds from Mandragora.’ As a result of her work, she was awarded two prizes: a Special Award in the field of education and training, the INTERACT 2026 Innovative Educator Award, and the Gold Award for the scientific significance of her research. Mekan Rozmyradov, a third-year student at the Faculty of Chemistry and Nanotechnology, also took part in the competition. His scientific supervisor was Patma Igdyrova. His work on ‘Innovative Methods for Producing an Environmentally Friendly, Highly Sustainable Keratin-based Bioplastic Material’ was included in the TOP 5 in the ‘Ecology and Sustainable Development’ category. For this project, Mekan Rozmyradov was awarded a gold medal, the highest Special Award of the competition. The WYSII World Competition brings together young scientists and inventors from different countries every year and is considered one of the largest international platforms in the field of science and innovation.


Prospects for academic cooperation between Turkmenistan and Qatar discussed

On 1 February, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the State of Qatar, Myratgeldi Seyitmammedov, held a meeting with the President of Lusail University, Nitham Mohammed Hindi. The parties discussed prospects for cooperation between universities in the two countries and the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding between Lusail University and higher education institutions in Turkmenistan. The meeting was also attended by Fatma Mansur Al-Mesleh, Vice-President for Academic Affairs at Lusail University, and Adam Mohammed Ali Fadlallah, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management. The Ambassador provided information on Turkmenistan's domestic and foreign policy. He also announced that 2026 has been declared the Year of ‘Independent Neutral Turkmenistan − the Homeland of Purposeful Winged Horses’ and spoke about the international scientific conferences planned to mark the 35th anniversary of independence.


Students from Turkmenistan won 46 medals at the Olympiads in Bukhara

Students from Turkmen universities won 46 medals at the BIMO-2026 and BIChO-2026 International Olympiads, which took place from 25 to 28 January at Bukhara State University. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan. The Olympiads were held in mathematics and chemistry. More than 500 students and 100 teams from 10 countries took part in the competitions. The championships included individual and team rounds, as well as meetings with teachers and excursions to historical monuments in Bukhara. Participants from Turkmenistan won 17 gold, 17 silver and 12 bronze medals, demonstrating a high level of preparation. The topics of the Olympiads covered mathematical analysis, linear algebra, combinatorics, as well as organic, inorganic and physical chemistry. For students, participation was not only a test of their knowledge, but also an opportunity to make international acquaintances and exchange experiences.


An online scientific journal will be launched at Magtymguly TSU

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has approved the creation of an electronic popular science magazine called ‘Scientific Research and Innovation’. The decision was made at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, according to the publication ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’. The new publication will be based at the Magtymguly Turkmen State University. The journal will be published in electronic format. Publications are planned to be available in Turkmen, English and Russian. The platform will be open to professors, teachers and students. The topics will cover the humanities and social sciences, as well as research in the field of national heritage and the cultural contribution of prominent figures. Special attention will be paid to the practical results of cooperation between science, education and the economy. The materials will be devoted to the implementation of developments and modern teaching methods.


The International Academy of Horse Breeding of Turkmenistan has signed an agreement with Qatar

The Aba Annayev International Academy of Horse Breeding and the Qatar Equestrian Federation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. This was reported by Turkmenportal. The document was signed during a working visit by a delegation from the academy to the State of Qatar, which took place from 29 to 31 January at the invitation of the Equestrian Federation. The ceremony was attended by the President of the Qatar Equestrian Federation, Bader Mohammed Al-Darwish, the Deputy Executive Director of the Emir of Qatar's ‘Al Shaqab’ Equestrian Center, Khalid Abdullah Al-Hitmi, and the Rector of the Aba Annayev International Academy of Horse Breeding, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, People's Horse Breeder of Turkmenistan Pygy Hojamuhammedov. Turkmenistan and V.N. Tatishchev Astrakhan State University expand scientific and educational ties

The Consul of Turkmenistan in Astrakhan, Gadam Ilamanov, held a meeting with the Rector of Astrakhan State University (ASU) named after V.N. Tatishchev, Igor Alekseyev. About 4,000 foreign students study at ASU, more than 3,000 of whom are citizens of Turkmenistan. Universities in Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan discussed joint academic initiatives

Turkmenistan delegation continues training programme in Cambridge

Advanced training courses for university administrators from Central Asian countries are continuing in Cambridge, with representatives from Turkmenistan's education system participating. The programme runs from 25 to 31 January, according to the publication ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’. The Turkmen delegation includes representatives from Magtymguly Turkmen State University, the International University for the Humanities and Development, the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages, and the Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute. The programme includes training sessions, seminars, and experience-sharing sessions. Participants study modern models of leadership and strategic planning in the PRESETT system, as well as management practices in the field of teacher development and the continuing professional development (CPD) system. Special attention is paid to communicative and personality-oriented methods of teaching English. The introduction of digital platforms, interactive methods and artificial intelligence technologies into the educational process is also discussed. Participants analyse the structure and effectiveness of training programmes and observe training sessions to evaluate teaching methods and materials used. The courses discuss approaches to harmonising language programmes based on the CEFR and methods for assessing four key skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing. The organisers note that the programme is aimed at introducing international experience and developing cooperation in the field of education.


Turkmen students participate in the ‘Feel Korea! with KNU’ programme in Korea

The delegation also familiarised itself with the scientific projects and programme developments of the institute and visited the museum of the educational institution. On 27 January, the delegation from Doha University of Science and Technology visited the Oguz Han University of Engineering and Technology in Turkmenistan. The parties held consultations on cooperation in the field of science and education and discussed the training of specialists in accordance with international standards. The Qatari side expressed particular interest in cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence, e-sports, robotics and electronics. The prospects for signing a Memorandum of Understanding and a student exchange agreement were also discussed. During the visit, the Qatari delegation met with Turkmenistan's Minister of Education, J. Representatives of Turkmenistan's universities are improving their qualifications in the UK

From 25 to 31 January, representatives of the education sector in Turkmenistan are attending advanced training courses for heads of higher education institutions in Central Asia in Cambridge (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland). This was reported by the publication ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’. The training is organised as part of the AELLCA Phase II project to improve the quality of English language teaching in Central Asia. The programme was developed for the management of higher education institutions in the participating countries in collaboration with the Cambridge University Press and Assessment Department and is based on the PRESETT (Pre-Service English Teacher Training) programme. On the first day of the visit, the opening ceremony of the training programme took place. This was followed by the first training module on leadership in implementing English language teaching reforms within the framework of PRESETT. Participants discussed issues related to planning educational changes and monitoring their implementation, and learned about Cambridge University's practices in modernising curricula and expanding the use of English. The main goal of the Turkmen delegation's participation is to develop management and leadership competencies within the PRESETT system. The programme also includes studying international experience in teacher training, modern approaches to curriculum development and assessment systems, and the use of digital technologies in education.
