Turkmenistan and Afghanistan discussed prospects for energy and transport cooperation

On 3 July 2025, during a visit by a Turkmen delegation to Azerbaijan, talks were held between the Head of the Turkmen Foreign Affairs Ministry, Rashid Meredov, and the acting Deputy Prime Minister of Afghanistan, Abdul Ghani Baradar. The main focus was on developing bilateral cooperation in the energy and transport sectors. This was reported by the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Turkmenistan.

The key topics of discussion were the implementation of large-scale projects, such as the TAPI gas pipeline (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India), as well as the creation of power lines and fibre-optic communications along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan route. The parties confirmed their mutual interest in strengthening multilateral partnership to promote economic development in the region.

The meeting demonstrated the relevance of the Turkmen-Afghan dialogue on key issues of regional security and sustainable growth.
