Representatives of Turkmenistan’s education sector have completed a study visit to Lisbon organized by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The visit aimed to explore Portugal’s experience in inclusive education and comprehensive support for people with disabilities, including children, according to the press service of Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Education.

During the visit, the delegation toured educational institutions at various levels and specialized centres. The participants learned about approaches to inclusive education and the provision of comprehensive assistance to children with special educational needs.

Particular attention was given to the work of multidisciplinary teams comprising teachers, psychologists and speech therapists. The participants examined approaches to developing individualized education plans and adapting learning environments to meet each child’s needs.

The meetings also addressed the provision of support directly in classrooms and its role in children’s social adaptation. Delegation members shared information about reforms in Turkmenistan aimed at ensuring equal access to quality education.

The experience gained is expected to be used to improve teaching methods, expand comprehensive support for children with disabilities, and develop inclusive environments in preschools and general education schools.
