Turkmenistan participated in the 78th session of the World Health Assembly

On 19-20 May 2025, a delegation of Turkmenistan led by Minister of Health and Medical Industry Myrat Mammedov took part in the 78th session of the World Health Assembly (WHA) held in Geneva. Participation in the forum was another confirmation of Turkmenistan's aspiration for active international cooperation in the field of health protection and strengthening global partnership, the press service of the Turkmenistan's diplomatic mission in the Swiss Confederation reported.

One of the key outcomes of the session was the adoption of the Declaration on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response, which emphasises the need for international solidarity, strengthening the capacity of health systems and increasing the resilience of societies to global challenges.

Speaking at the plenary session, Minister Myrat Mammedov emphasised the importance of strengthening international cooperation, noting the priority directions of Turkmenistan's state policy in public health.

The session included a number of bilateral meetings aimed at expanding cooperation with the World Health Organisation and its relevant structures.

The source notes that on 19 May, Minister M. Mammedov held a meeting with WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. During the talks, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of interaction, noting the positive dynamics of cooperation. Special attention was paid to Turkmenistan's initiatives in the prevention of non-communicable diseases, promotion of healthy lifestyles and development of medical education.

The Minister conveyed an official invitation from the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the events on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the country's neutrality, which will be held on 12 December 2025.

Also, on 20 May, Minister M. Mammedov met with Dr Hans Kluge, Director of the WHO Regional Office for Europe. The talks were devoted to issues of bilateral cooperation, including the planning of joint events for the 30th anniversary of neutrality and the celebration of the Day of Health Workers in Turkmenistan.
