The ‘Türkmendeňizderýaýollary’ agency has announced an international tender for the design, supply of equipment and construction management of two Ro-Ro railway ferries and one dry cargo ship. The project is financed by the Islamic Development Bank and the OPEC Fund under previously signed agreements. This was reported by IIC.

All three vessels will be built at the Balkan shipbuilding and ship repair yard, which underscores Turkmenistan's commitment to developing its own shipbuilding capacity. The implementation of the project will increase the cargo-carrying capacity of the national maritime fleet, strengthen Turkmenistan's position as a transport hub in the Caspian Sea region, create new jobs and improve the qualifications of local specialists.

Particular importance is attached to the construction of railway ferries that will be able to transport wagons between Caspian ports, which will increase the efficiency of international transport corridors involving Turkmenistan.

This project is in line with the country's long-term maritime infrastructure development strategy and will contribute to the diversification of the national economy. Construction is scheduled for completion in 2026-2027.
