On 17 June, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov spoke at the ‘Central Asia – China’ summit, noting the importance of deepening cooperation in politics, economics, transport and culture. This was reported by the state news agency TDH.

The Head of State proposed developing a Global Security Strategy under the auspices of the UN, based on the principles of neutrality and preventive diplomacy. The President of Turkmenistan also emphasised the importance of linking the ‘Revival of the Great Silk Road’ initiative with China's ‘Belt and Road Initiative’ project to create a modern transport and logistics network.

In the energy sector, Turkmenistan declared its readiness to diversify natural gas supplies and expand electricity exports. A call was also made to develop joint innovative projects, including in the fields of AI, digitalisation and space.

On the humanitarian agenda, Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed establishing a platform for ‘Cultural Dialogue between Central Asia and China’ and holding regular festivals.

The President of Turkmenistan invited the leaders of the countries to an international forum in Ashgabat in December, timed to coincide with the International Year of Peace and Trust and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality.
