President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, speaking at a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State in Dushanbe, emphasised the importance of active participation by the Commonwealth countries in the creation of a Caspian logistics hub. This was reported by the news agency ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’.
The Head of State recalled that the issue of developing the Caspian direction had previously been raised at the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries. The conference noted that the transit and logistics potential of the Caspian region is becoming increasingly important internationally.
‘It is through the Caspian region that the main vertical and horizontal Eurasian transport routes will pass, from the Asia-Pacific region to Europe and the Middle East, from Russia to the South, to Iran, India and the Gulf countries. It is necessary for the Commonwealth countries to participate fully in the formation of the Caspian logistics hub, to establish and strengthen their positions in this project on a mutually beneficial and coordinated basis,’ said Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
The President of Turkmenistan also noted that Ashgabat is ready to contribute to the development of this initiative and discuss with partners practical issues of using Turkmenistan's port infrastructure on the Caspian Sea in the interests of mutual cooperation.
