Turkmenistan and Georgia hold intergovernmental commission meeting

On May 7, the fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Georgian Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Ashgabat, according to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The Turkmen delegation was headed by Turkmenistan’s Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations, Nazar Agakhanov, while the Georgian delegation was led by Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili. The meeting was attended by heads of relevant ministries and agencies from both countries.

The parties discussed the current state and prospects of trade and economic cooperation. They reaffirmed their readiness to expand collaboration in key areas. Transport, energy, and the oil and gas sector were identified as priority fields. The sides also reviewed issues related to increasing trade turnover, attracting investment, and developing business ties.

Particular attention was paid to transport and logistics. Discussions focused on the development of the “Caspian Sea–Black Sea” corridor and the “Lapis Lazuli Corridor,” as well as the use of the transit potential of port infrastructure.

The meeting also addressed humanitarian cooperation in the fields of science, education, tourism, and culture. Following the meeting, the parties signed a Protocol formalizing the agreements reached and outlining steps for the implementation of joint projects.

As part of the Georgian delegation’s visit to Ashgabat, separate meetings were also held between representatives of relevant agencies of the two countries.
