Bakshi and storytellers from Turkmenistan took part in the VIII World Festival ‘Epics of the Peoples of the World’, which was held from 28 to 30 May in Kyrgyzstan. This was reported by the agency ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’.
According to the source, the event brought together participants from Altai, Kalmykia, Dagestan, Tuva, Sakha (Yakutia), Khakassia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and France.
Turkmenistan was represented by distinguished bakshi Kerven Yevbasarov with excerpts from the epic ‘Gorogly’ and master jeweller Shazada Orazberdiyev. They also attended the opening ceremony and the ‘Түндүк көтөрүү’ (‘Raising the dome of the yurt tents’) ritual.
The festival in Bishkek included exhibitions of folk art, competitions, theatre performances, master classes, symposiums and a gala concert. The event was dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the great storyteller Sayakbai Karalaev.
