The legacy of Rabindranath Tagore was commemorated in the capital of Turkmenistan

On May 7, a ceremonial event dedicated to the 165th anniversary of the birth of the Indian poet and philosopher Rabindranath Tagore was held at the Magtymguly Pyragy Cultural and Park Complex in Ashgabat.
The event was attended by representatives of the Embassy of India in Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan, public figures, and students of the Turkmen National Institute of World Languages named after Döwletmämmet Azady, who are studying Hindi.
The complex is located in the foothills of the Kopetdag mountains. A monument to Rabindranath Tagore has been installed in the Alley of Distinguished Figures. The program included yoga performances, musical and vocal presentations, as well as recitations of Tagore’s poetry in Hindi. Students from the Turkmen university also recited his works from memory.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Turkmenistan, Bandaru Wilsonbabu, emphasized the significance of the poet’s humanistic ideas and his contribution to the development of universal values. He also highlighted the role of the monument in the park as a symbol of friendship between the two countries.
The Deputy Minister of Culture of Turkmenistan, G. Myradaliyev, noted that Tagore’s legacy contributes to strengthening cultural ties between Turkmenistan and India. According to him, the poet’s works are studied in Turkmen universities and are regarded as an important element of humanitarian cooperation.
Rabindranath Tagore was a poet, writer, philosopher, composer, and educator. In 1913, he became the first non-European Nobel Prize laureate in Literature for his collection Gitanjali.
