President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held talks with the President of the Republic of Iraq, Abdul Latif Rashid, who arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the International Forum dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, AsmanNews reports.

At the beginning of the meeting, the parties highlighted the significance of the visit and the participation of the Iraqi delegation in high-level events. Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Abdul Latif Rashid’s presence confirms support for Turkmenistan’s neutrality policy and interest in promoting peace.

Abdul Latif Rashid noted that this is his first visit to Turkmenistan and expressed gratitude for the invitation. He highly praised Turkmenistan’s initiatives in the field of peace and trust and congratulated the country on the International Day of Neutrality and the anniversary of its neutral status.

The President of Turkmenistan expressed confidence that the international forum would serve as a platform for discussing global challenges and finding joint solutions. He also noted that the visit of the Iraqi leader would give a new impetus to bilateral cooperation.

The parties emphasized that relations between Turkmenistan and Iraq are developing on the basis of friendship and mutual respect. The countries interact both directly and through international platforms, including within the framework of the UN.

Promising areas for expanding cooperation in various fields were outlined. Turkmenistan confirmed its readiness to further develop ties with Iraq.

At the conclusion of the talks, the presidents reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening friendly relations and wished each other success in their state activities.
