During his visit to the United States, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in the first day of the high-level plenary meeting of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly and delivered a speech. This was reported by the state news agency TDH.

The Head of State emphasised that neutrality remains the basis of Turkmenistan's domestic and foreign policy and an important tool for strengthening peace, stability and trust in the international arena. The President of Turkmenistan noted the country's readiness to continue practical steps to develop dialogue, cooperation and diplomatic settlement of conflicts.

Among Turkmenistan's initiatives are the inclusion of the issue ‘Neutrality for Peace and Security’ on the session's agenda, the holding of a World Summit on the Culture of Peace and Trust, an international forum ‘Central Asia - a Space for Peaceful Coexistence,’ as well as the establishment of an International Day of Mediation and a Day of Multilingual Diplomacy.

Particular attention is paid to sustainable development: it has been proposed to declare a UN Decade of Sustainable Transport (2026-2035), to create a Global Platform for Digital Integration, and to establish a Regional Centre for Combating Desertification in Central Asia. Turkmenistan intends to promote the Caspian Environmental Initiative and organise the Caspian Environmental Forum in 2026.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov stressed that cooperation with the UN is a strategic priority for the country. In this regard, the Head of State proposed to declare 2028 the Year of International Law, emphasising the importance of strengthening the legal foundations of the world order.

In his speech, the Head of State of Turkmenistan also recalled the 1995 Resolution on the Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan, thanking the international community for its support.

At the end of his visit, Serdar Berdimuhamedov proceeded to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, from where he departed for Turkmenistan. The Head of State was met by officials at Ashgabat International Airport.
