From 16 to 21 June, Fergana (Uzbekistan) will host the Central Asian Team Championship for tennis players under 12 years of age. Turkmenistan will be represented by two teams: the women's team consisting of Nazli Hudaykuliyeva, Sahra Garahanova and Sulgun Ishankuliyeva, and the men's team consisting of Yunus Annamuradov, Yegenmammet Nuryagdyev and Erkin Altiyev. Under the guidance of captains and coaches Yuri Rogussky and Mirali Gasanov, the young athletes will compete for a place in the final stage of the Asian Championship. This was reported by the online publication ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’.
The tournament will be an important step in the development of children's tennis in the region. Two years ago, Ashgabat successfully hosted a similar competition, which was highly praised by the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF). The tennis complex in the capital's Olympic Park was recognised as a training centre for the Asian region, confirming the growing level of Turkmen tennis infrastructure.
In addition, in August this year, Ashgabat will host a Level 2 regional coaching seminar supported by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), which highlights Turkmenistan's role as a centre for tennis development in Central Asia.
