The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on behalf of the Turkmen people and the Halk Maslahaty addressed a congratulatory message to the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on the occasion of Ashgabat City Day and the Turkmen Carpet Festival. It is reported by the state news agency TDH.

The congratulatory message notes that Ashgabat has become a symbol of sovereignty, prosperity and well-being of the country. It is emphasised that under the leadership of the President of Turkmenistan the state is dynamically developing, and the capital is being transformed thanks to large-scale construction and high living standards of citizens.

Special attention is paid to the significance of the holidays coinciding with the international exhibition ‘White City Ashgabat’ and the ‘Last Bell’ ceremony.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people noted Ashgabat's achievements in the international arena - inclusion in the Guinness Book of Records, in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, awarding international prizes and recognition as a centre of neutrality and diplomacy.

The importance of the development of carpet weaving, a national art included in UNESCO's list of intangible heritage, was also emphasised. Chairman of Halk Maslahaty mentioned measures to support carpet weaving, including creation of modern enterprises and awarding honourable titles to carpet weavers.

In conclusion, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov wished the Head of State good health and success in the prosperity of the country and popularisation of Turkmen cultural heritage.
