On May 13, the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, arrived in the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation on a visit. This was reported by the state news agency TDH.
At Kazan International Airport named after Gabdulla Tukay, he was welcomed by the Head of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov. The parties held talks in both narrow and expanded formats. They discussed the development of Turkmen-Russian cooperation with a focus on interregional ties. Particular attention was given to industrial cooperation, the fuel and energy sector, transport, and digital technologies.
The sides noted the activities of KamAZ and Tatneft in Turkmenistan, as well as joint projects in the oil and gas sector. They also emphasized the role of regular Ashgabat–Kazan flights in promoting business and humanitarian contacts. Issues related to education and culture were discussed as well. Turkmen students are studying at universities in Tatarstan. The parties also considered a proposal to hold the final of the “Tatar Kyzy – 2026” contest in Ashgabat.
Special note was made of Turkmenistan’s participation in the 17th International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum–2026.”
Following the meeting, the sides confirmed their mutual interest in expanding cooperation in key areas.
