Outstanding carpet weavers were honoured in Turkmenistan within the framework of the state policy on preservation and development of the national cultural heritage. By the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, outstanding carpet weavers of the country were awarded the honourable title ‘Türkmenistanyň at gazanan halyçysy’ ('Honored Carpet Maker of Turkmenistan'). It is reported by the state news agency TDH.

According to the document, this measure is timed to coincide with the Turkmen Carpet Holiday and is aimed at recognising the significant contribution of carpet weavers to the preservation and development of the ancient art of carpet weaving - an important part of the world cultural heritage and the pride of the Turkmen people.

The Decree emphasises professionalism, many years of diligent labour and artistic skills displayed in creating famous Turkmen carpets, which are famous far beyond the borders of the country.
