A regional training programme for young diplomats from Central Asian countries was held in Ashgabat from 12 to 16 May. The organisers were the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan and the Government of Turkmenistan with the support of the Swiss and Italian Embassies and UNFPA. The training took place at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and brought together 26 participants from five countries of the region. For five days, the young diplomats practised skills in international relations, gender equality, sustainable development and climate negotiations. The programme included lectures, seminars and simulation exercises.
Senior representatives of Turkmenistan, the UN and diplomatic missions spoke at the opening ceremony. At the end of the training, participants expanded their knowledge of the UN system, strengthened their professional skills and laid the foundation for future co-operation.
