From 22 to 25 June 2025, representatives of Turkmen universities participated in the 11th International Workshop UI GreenMetric (IWGM 2025) in Nice (France). The event, organised by the University of Indonesia and the University of Côte d'Azur, was dedicated to the role of universities in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This was reported by the online publication ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’.
Turkmenistan was represented at the forum by lecturers from the Oguz Khan University of Engineering and Technology and the S.A.Niyazov Turkmen Agricultural University. During the sectional meetings, Serdar Gedayev presented a study on the use of the microalgae Chlorella Vulgaris for the production of biofuel. Begench Yovbagshiev and Kadyr Amanov shared their experience in processing livestock waste into organic fertilisers.
The forum was held in historic locations – the Valrose Castle and the Côte d'Azur Observatory. The key topics of discussion were energy efficiency, waste management and ‘green’ campuses. Special attention was paid to the signing of the UI GreenMetric Declaration, which strengthens global cooperation between universities.
The participation of the Turkmen delegation allowed not only to demonstrate national achievements, but also to learn from international experience. The next IWGM conference in 2026 will be held in Poland, which opens up new opportunities for the integration of Turkmen universities into the global environmental agenda.
