A delegation from Turkmenistan visited Uzbekistan to improve the qualifications of young specialists in the field of seismology. The visit was part of the UNDP project to strengthen Turkmenistan's capacity to assess seismic risks and respond to earthquakes. This was reported by the online publication ‘Turkenistan: Golden age’.
The participants visited the Tashkent Seismic Observatory, where they discussed the introduction of automated systems for recording underground tremors. At the Seismic and Forecasting Monitoring Centre of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan, an exchange of experience on earthquake forecasting and emergency response took place.
Following the visit, the parties agreed to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Seismology Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan. Plans include joint research, internships for young scientists and scientific conferences.
