The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) have completed an imPACT review mission in Turkmenistan, which aimed to strengthen the cancer care system. This was reported by the online publication Arzuw.news.

International experts worked in Ashgabat and Dashoguz, where they assessed all stages of cancer care, from prevention and early diagnosis to treatment and palliative support.

The delegation visited key medical institutions in the country, including the Scientific and Clinical Centre for Oncology and the Dashoguz Oncology Centre, and met with representatives of ministries, universities and the statistics office.

The mission also held consultations with UN agencies, NGOs and civil society on the financing and development of cancer policy. Following the visit, the experts presented recommendations for the creation of a sustainable cancer control system in Turkmenistan.
