On October 27, 2026, Turkmenistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Vepa Hajiyev, addressed the UN Security Council’s open debate on “Women, Peace and Security.” In his statement, Vepa Hajiyev highlighted the importance of women’s participation in conflict prevention, mediation and peacebuilding, reports the IIC.

Turkmenistan identified expanding the role of women, preventive diplomacy and regional cooperation as key priorities. These issues were also discussed at the International Women’s Dialogue, “The Role of Women in Maintaining Peace and Achieving Sustainable Development,” held on October 7, 2026, in Avaza.

As part of these ongoing efforts, Turkmenistan announced plans to host a ministerial meeting in the “6+2” format in Ashgabat in March 2027, as well as the first dialogue bringing together Afghan women representatives and women from countries across the region.
