Boxer Hangeldi Lukmanov won Turkmenistan's first medal at the 3rd CIS Games in Azerbaijan. This was reported by the news website Turkmenportal.
In the 52 kg category, he defeated Belarusian athlete Kirill Leichanka and advanced to the semi-finals, where he lost to Azerbaijani Ali Abasli. As a result of the tournament, the 16-year-old athlete won the bronze medal.
The boxing competitions are being held in Yevlakh, where eight representatives of Turkmenistan are competing as part of the national delegation.
In total, more than 1,600 athletes from 13 CIS countries and invited states are participating in the Games, who will compete for 246 sets of awards in 23 disciplines until 8 October. At last year's Games in Belarus, the Turkmen team won 18 medals.
