The State Concern Turkmengas and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) reviewed the results of 20 years of cooperation in the gas sector and discussed prospects for new projects on the sidelines of the 31st International Conference and Exhibition “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2026” (OGT 2026). This was reported by the news agency “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”.
The key joint project is Phase IV of the development of the Galkynysh gas field, implemented by CNPC Amudarya Petroleum Company Ltd. The project includes drilling production wells and constructing a gas processing plant with an annual capacity of 10 billion cubic metres. Work began on 17 April 2026 in Mary velayat, with the participation of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, and Ding Xuexiang, First Vice-Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China.
China remains the largest importer of Turkmen natural gas. Since the launch of the Turkmenistan–China gas pipeline in December 2009, total supplies had exceeded 477 billion cubic metres as of 1 October 2026.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to developing long-term cooperation. Key priorities include increasing gas production and transportation, digitalising operations, introducing innovations and adopting environmentally responsible solutions.
