At the 82nd meeting of the CIS Council on Railway Transport, trilateral talks were held between the Heads of the railway administrations of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Iran. The main topic was the development of the international transport corridor ‘Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran’, which opens up new opportunities for freight transport to Europe. This was reported by the online publication TerraNews.

The participants discussed specific measures to increase freight traffic and optimise logistics processes. The talks resulted in the signing of a protocol confirming further cooperation between the parties.

Experts noted the growing role of Central Asia in the formation of alternative transport routes between Asia and Europe. Thanks to their favourable geographical location, the countries of the region are becoming an important transit hub in international supply chains, connecting China and other Asian countries with the markets of the European Union.
