A delegation from Turkmenistan, led by Head of the Women's Union Oguljennet Berdiliyeva, took part in the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, which was held on 13 October in Beijing. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
Speaking at the forum on the theme ‘One Shared Future: New and Accelerated Process for Women’s All-Round Development,’ O. Berdiliyeva emphasised that protecting women's rights and expanding their opportunities are priorities of Turkmenistan's state policy.
According to her, under the leadership of President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, systematic work is being carried out to ensure equal conditions for women in education, healthcare, science, the economy and governance.
The Women's Union of Turkmenistan is actively involved in the implementation of national programmes aimed at strengthening gender equality and the institution of the family, supporting women entrepreneurs and initiatives in rural areas, and developing international cooperation. Particular attention is paid to the upbringing of a new generation of girls who are confident, educated and open to the world.
O. Berdiliyeva noted that Turkmenistan cooperates with the UN and its structures in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, especially in promoting gender equality (SDG 5).
The summit took place in the year of the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, which adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, key documents that laid the foundations for global policy on improving the status of women, including in Turkmenistan.
