The 65th session of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO) has begun in Vienna. A delegation from Turkmenistan, under the leadership of Guljemal Saryeva, Director of the Institute of Seismology and Atmospheric Physics of the Academy of Sciences, is participating in the meeting. This was reported by the press service of the Turkmenistan Embassy in Austria.

Speaking at the plenary session, representatives of Turkmenistan confirmed the country's unwavering commitment to the goals and principles of the Treaty, emphasising its importance as a key element of the global disarmament and non-proliferation system. It was noted that Turkmenistan was one of the first countries to sign and ratify the document, consistently advocating for the strengthening of international security and the prevention of nuclear weapons proliferation.

The delegation paid particular attention to Turkmenistan's participation in the international monitoring system. In particular, the role of the PS44 ‘Alibek’ Primary Seismic Station, which is part of the International Monitoring System (IMS) and provides reliable data to the International Data Centre, was noted. It was also reported that a mission of experts from the CTBTO was planning to visit the country to carry out technical maintenance of the station.
