From 13 to 17 July 2026, the 48th meeting of the Open-ended Working Group of the Parties (OEWG-48) and the Sixth Extraordinary Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (ExMOP6) took place in Bangkok. A delegation from Turkmenistan took part in the events. This was reported by the press service of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Turkmenistan.
Participants discussed the implementation of the Montreal Protocol and the Kigali Amendment, as well as scientific, technical and organisational issues relating to the protection of the ozone layer. The focus was on regional monitoring of controlled substances, improving the energy efficiency of refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, and refining relevant legislation.
In addition, the parties considered issues relating to the recovery, reuse and environmentally sound disposal of refrigerants, the training and certification of specialists in the refrigeration sector, and the introduction of natural refrigerants and sustainable cooling technologies.
During the meeting, consultations were held on preparations for the 38th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol (MOP3-38), which will take place in November 2026 in Kigali (Rwanda) and will mark the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the Kigali Amendment.
Turkmenistan’s participation in these events is aimed at developing international and regional cooperation, exchanging experience and improving national legislation in the field of ozone layer protection.
