Turkmenistan participates in the 33rd session of the UNESCO Oceanographic Commission

The 33rd session of the Assembly of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) is being held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris from 25 June to 3 July this year. On the eve of the Assembly, a meeting of the IOC Executive Council was held to discuss key issues of international cooperation in the field of oceanography. This was reported by the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan is represented at the event by Director of the Caspian Sea Institute Myrat Atajanov, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to UNESCO Maksat Charyev and Foreign Affairs Ministry official Kemal Garayev. The session includes scientific discussions on ocean monitoring, climate change forecasting and marine environment protection.

Turkmenistan's participation in the IOC reflects the country's commitment to developing its scientific and technical potential, supporting international dialogue on environmental issues and contributing to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Particular attention is paid to the conservation of biodiversity and the rational use of marine resources, including in the Caspian Sea, which is of key importance to the region.

Turkmenistan reaffirms its commitment to global initiatives to protect marine ecosystems, develop oceanographic research and strengthen multilateral cooperation in this area.
