Turkmenistan participated in the UN High-Level Meeting in New York

On 7 July, a delegation from Turkmenistan led by Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Myahri Byashimova took part in the UN High-level Meeting on Regional Zones of Peace, held at the organisation's headquarters in New York. This was reported by the press service of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Turkmenistan.

The purpose of the meeting was to develop and establish regional zones of peace and strengthen cooperation and trust between states and regions.

In her speech, M. Byashimova reaffirmed Turkmenistan's commitment to the principles of neutrality, peace and good-neighbourliness, noting the importance of establishing a zone of peace, trust and cooperation in Central Asia.

Special attention was paid to the UN General Assembly resolution ‘Zone of Peace, Trust and Cooperation of Central Asia’, recognized as an important step towards institutionalizing regional peace and dialogue.

The participants emphasised the role of zones of peace as instruments of stability and platforms for diplomacy. The meeting became an important platform for exchanging views on strengthening security at the regional and global levels.

On the same day, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held a meeting with the UN Under-Secretary-General, High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States Rabab Fatima.

The parties discussed preparations for the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC 3). The importance of the conference for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals was emphasised.
