Turkmenistan intends to start supplying gas via TAPI to Afghanistan by 2027

Turkmenistan plans to start supplying gas to Afghanistan via the ‘Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India’ (TAPI) gas pipeline by early 2027. This was announced by the CEO of ‘TAPI Pipeline Company Limited’, Muhammetmyrat Amanov, at the International Conference ‘Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2025,’ according to the news website Turkmenportal.

M. Amanov noted that construction work on the Afghan section of the pipeline should be completed by the end of 2026, after which gas supply will begin.

Negotiations are underway with Pakistan on key agreements necessary to protect investments and investor confidence; More than 90% of the work has already been completed, with completion planned for the first half of 2026.

The gas pipeline is designed to transport up to 33 billion cubic metres of gas per year from the ‘Galkynysh’ field: 5 billion cubic metres to Afghanistan and 14 billion cubic metres each to Pakistan and India.
