Construction has begun in Turkmenistan on a new Ashgabat–Dashoguz highway, with a total length of approximately 550 kilometers. According to the TDH news agency, the highway will provide a direct transport link between the capital and the country's northern regions, and will also become part of the international North–South transport corridor.

Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony for the future highway, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov outlined the engineering and infrastructure solutions envisaged by the project. In particular, plans call for the construction of an 812-meter-long road bridge and the reconstruction of nine existing bridges.

In addition, the necessary infrastructure for servicing drivers and passengers will be created along the highway. Modern digital monitoring systems will also be introduced on the road.

The head of state noted that construction of the new highway will strengthen the country's transit potential, improve road safety and increase the volume of road transport of goods and passengers between the countries of the region.

Another stage in the modernization of the transport network was the opening on November 4 of a 44-kilometer section of the Turkmenbashi–Garabogaz–Kazakhstan border highway. The commissioned Garabogaz–Kazakhstan border section is also part of the international North–South transport corridor.
