Turkmenistan has launched Central Asia's first research centre for training Olympic athletes. It began operating at the State Institute of Physical Culture and Sport, according to IIC.

The centre is equipped with the same gear used by top sports schools in Germany, Japan, and the US. It has BOD POD and Cosmed systems, which are used at the Olympic centres in Salt Lake City and Tokyo. To test speed and reaction time, they use the SpeedCourt system, which is familiar from the ‘Bayern Munich’ and ‘Real Madrid’ academies. Höhenbalance technology has also been introduced, allowing high-altitude conditions to be simulated.

The centre works in conjunction with the institute's departments. Students have access to real measurements and practical training in the fields of sports medicine and biomechanics. The aim of the project is to form a scientific basis for the training of national teams and qualified specialists.
