On 9 October, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Ahmet Gurbanov met with a Malaysian delegation led by Senior Political Secretary to the Prime Minister of Malaysia Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin in Ashgabat. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The interlocutors discussed the development of Turkmen-Malaysian cooperation in the political, economic and cultural spheres. Particular attention was paid to the expansion of trade and investment cooperation, and the successful holding of a forum in Kuala Lumpur on attracting investment to the economy of Turkmenistan was noted.

The parties also considered the prospects for partnership in the oil and gas industry, including cooperation with Petronas, and discussed the strengthening of humanitarian ties, particularly in the fields of education and tourism.
