Head of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has arrived in Italy on an official visit. Representatives of the Italian government and members of the Turkmen delegation welcomed the Head of State at Leonardo da Vinci International Airport in Rome-Fiumicino, according to the state news agency TDH.

As part of his visit, Serdar Berdimuhamedov laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Altare della Patria memorial complex, paying tribute to the heroes who died for Italy's freedom.

Later, at the Quirinale Palace, negotiations were held between the President of Turkmenistan and the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella. The parties discussed prospects for strengthening political dialogue and expanding trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

It was noted that relations between Turkmenistan and Italy have long historical roots and are developing on the principles of mutual respect. Particular attention was paid to cooperation within international organisations, including the UN, as well as cooperation in the energy sector and in the ‘Central Asia-Italy’ format.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov invited the President of Italy to attend the International Forum dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality.

The Heads of State confirmed their readiness to further develop a comprehensive partnership. The official visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Italy continues.
