The President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, has called on the countries of Central Asia and Azerbaijan to set out specific joint measures to develop transport and logistics links across the continent. The Head of State made this statement on 8 October at the eighth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of the region and Azerbaijan in the ‘Awaza’ National Tourist Zone, according to the news agency ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that the countries of the region have rapidly developing economies and a favourable geo-economic position. He identified the “Central Asia – Caspian Sea – South Caucasus – Europe” route, linking the “East–West” and “North–South” axes, as one of the key areas of cooperation.

According to the President of Turkmenistan, cooperation between Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan will ensure the participation of Central Asian countries and other interested states in international transport projects. In this regard, the Head of State confirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness to provide port and logistics infrastructure on the Caspian Sea.

‘Turkmenistan has repeatedly stated its readiness to make its infrastructure on the Caspian Sea available in the common interest and on a mutually beneficial basis,’ noted Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
