Perenco Holdings is ready to assist in increasing hydrocarbon production in Turkmenistan. Among the possible areas of cooperation, the company's CEO Armel Simonden mentioned enhanced oil recovery from mature fields and developing small reserves, according to the Turkmenportal.

Simondin made the remarks at the 31st International Conference and Exhibition “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan” (OGT 2026) in Ashgabat. Over the past 30 years, Perenco has built up expertise in developing mature fields, where continued production requires specialised technical solutions and significant investment.

As fields reach the later stages of development, reservoir pressure declines, water inflow increases and equipment wears out. These factors raise the cost of maintaining and stabilising production.

To improve efficiency, Perenco aims to make the most of its existing well stock. The company uses artificial lift systems and carries out specialised workover and well intervention operations. The main focus is on increasing output from wells that have already been drilled.

Simondin also highlighted the importance of contractual frameworks that can attract investment not only in exploration and the development of new fields, but also in mature assets and smaller reserves. The Perenco executive welcomed recent steps by the Government of Turkmenistan to develop such mechanisms.

Perenco is an independent private oil and gas company headquartered in London and Paris. According to the company, it operates in 12 countries, employs around 8,500 people and produces approximately 500,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

The company specialises in developing mature fields and extending their productive life. Its other areas of activity include shallow-water offshore operations and the development of gas resources using floating liquefied natural gas facilities.
