On 9 May, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov arrived in Moscow on a working visit at the invitation of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to participate in solemn events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. This is reported by the state news agency TDH.
At the airport ‘Vnukovo-2’ the President of Turkmenistan was met by officials and presented with rare copies of the newspapers ‘Pravda’ and ‘Sowet Türkmenistany’ from 1945. Then the presidential motorcade proceeded to the Kremlin, where a meeting with Vladimir Putin took place.
Later, Serdar Berdimuhamedov together with other heads of state took a seat on the Central Stand of the Red Square. The Victory Parade took place there, opening with the striking of the chimes and Vladimir Putin's speech. A minute of silence was declared in memory of the victims. Troops of the Russian Federation and other countries, including the Honour Guard Company of the Ministry of Defence of Turkmenistan, took part in the parade.
During the visit, the contribution of the Turkmen people to the common victory - both on the front and in the rear - was emphasised.
After the parade, the leaders laid flowers at the tomb of the unknown soldier in Alexander Garden. Having completed his participation in the commemorative events, Serdar Berdimuhamedov left for Turkmenistan, where he was met by officials at Ashgabat International Airport.
