An event was held in Tashkent to mark the 34th anniversary of Turkmenistan's independence

On 18 September, a festive event entitled ‘Turkmen-Uzbek Relations – at a New Historical Stage’ was held in Tashkent to mark the 34th anniversary of the independence of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The event was organised by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Uzbekistan, the Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Interethnic Relations and Issues of Compatriots Abroad, and the Turkmen National Cultural Centre.

The event was attended by representatives of government agencies, cultural centres, universities, the media, as well as students from both countries. Welcoming speeches were made by Shadurdy Meredov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Uzbekistan, Kahraman Sariev, Chairman of the Committee, Guldane Avezdurdyeva, Deputy of the Oliy Majlis and Head of the Turkmen National Cultural Centre.

In their speeches, the speakers highlighted Turkmenistan's achievements during the years of independence and noted the development of Turkmen-Uzbek cooperation in politics, economics and the humanitarian sphere.

The evening ended with a concert programme: folk songs and national dances became a vivid symbol of friendship between the peoples.
