The capital of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, was a key topic of discussion at a conference during the International Year of Peace and Trust. Ambassador and Head of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat John S. MacGregor noted that the concept of ‘White City Ashgabat - City of Opportunity’ is fully in line with the OSCE values, focusing on sustainable development, environmental security and economic co-operation. It is reported by the IIC.
Living in Ashgabat since 2021, John S. McGregor emphasised the uniqueness of the Turkmen capital, where modern architecture harmoniously combines with national traditions. Snow-white marble buildings, spacious streets and vast green areas create an image of the city of the future - environmentally friendly, technologically advanced and open to international dialogue.
The OSCE sees Ashgabat as an important platform for promoting the values of stability and trust. ‘The White City’ has become not only a symbol of Turkmenistan's national progress, but also an example of sustainable development for the entire region.
