In Ashgabat, at the Russian House, a solemn ceremony of raising the tricolour flag was held on the eve of the Russian Federation's National Flag Day. The holiday is celebrated annually on 22 August. This was reported by the news website Turkmenportal.
Participants were told about the history and symbolism of the flag, after which the tricolour was raised to the Russian national anthem. About 30 people took part in the event.
First Secretary of the Russian Embassy in Ashgabat, representative of ‘Rossotrudnichestvo’ Yulia Zaitseva emphasised that the flag is a symbol of faith, hope, strength of spirit and unity of the Russian world.
According to her, Russians are proud of their national symbol both in diplomatic missions and at sporting, political and economic events.
She noted that Flag Day is celebrated not only in Russia, but also in all countries where Russian compatriots live.
