The escalating tensions in the Middle East are heightening the risks to global and regional stability. Turkmenistan’s position on these issues was outlined by the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, in an interview during his visit to Austria. According to him, the visit to Austria confirmed the development of bilateral cooperation. During the International Vienna Energy and Climate Forum, proposals were put forward to strengthen energy security. These included the interdependence of state security, the depoliticisation of the energy sector and the expansion of international cooperation. The interview paid particular attention to the situation in the Middle East. The Turkmen side expressed concern over a possible escalation and the risks of the use of weapons of mass destruction, which could affect the environment and the socio-economic situation in the region. Turkmenistan’s position on the Caspian region was also highlighted. The inadmissibility of military activity contrary to the provisions of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea, which establishes it as a zone of peace and cooperation, was emphasised. A United Nations Regional Centre for climate technology in Central Asia will begin operations in Ashgabat in the near future. This was announced by the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, at the International Vienna Energy and Climate Forum, according to TDH. According to him, Turkmenistan will support the activities of the new centre and create the necessary conditions for its operation. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that the country supports the development of regional cooperation, scientific research, and the implementation of modern climate technologies. Turkmenistan’s commitment to the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement was also reaffirmed. Separate emphasis was placed on support for “green” energy projects, including solar and wind power generation.

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a working meeting via a digital system on April 13 with the participation of Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers T. The hyakims of the Ahal, Balkan, Dashoguz, Lebap, and Mary regions reported on current fieldwork and the progress of construction of social, cultural, and industrial facilities scheduled for commissioning this year. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers T. Atahallyev reported that agricultural work is being carried out in accordance with agrotechnical standards, and measures are being taken to ensure the timely completion of cotton sowing and the efficient use of machinery. Summing up the meeting, the President of Turkmenistan instructed to ensure that cotton sowing is carried out within the established сроки, proper care is provided for wheat and other crops, and strict control is maintained over the quality and deadlines of construction projects. The head of state emphasized the importance of adhering to agrotechnical requirements and introducing advanced practices in agriculture, instructing that these issues remain under constant supervision.
Representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan took part in the third regional parliamentary dialogue on the development of the circular economy. The event took place on 9–10 April in Tashkent as part of the European Union’s ‘SWITCH-Asia’ initiative. This was reported by the press service of the National Parliament of Turkmenistan. The forum served as a platform for discussing sustainable development issues and exchanging experiences among participants. During the Middle East conflict, strikes have been recorded on territories in the Caspian region. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, commented on Turkmenistan’s position in an interview with Turkmen media, reports TDH. It was noted that for over 30 years, Turkmenistan, together with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Iran and Russia, has been developing Caspian cooperation. In 2018, the countries signed the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea, which enshrined the region’s status as a zone of peace, harmony and good-neighbourliness. The document prohibits the deployment of armed forces and military activity by states that are not Caspian littoral states. This is regarded as the foundation of regional security. In this regard, Turkmenistan expressed concern over strikes on the territory of one of the Caspian littoral states and stated that military action in the region is unacceptable. It was noted that the country is considering a draft joint statement by the Caspian states. The document states that the spread of the conflict to the Caspian region intensifies the escalation and poses a threat to security. Turkmenistan will decide on its support after analysing the draft.
