Modern technologies were discussed at the Energy Institute of Turkmenistan

On May 8, 2026, a training session was held at the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan as part of the “Fulbright” program with the support of the U.S. Embassy. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan. An exhibition of scientific and student research projects, as well as faculty works, was organized in the lobby of the academic building. Samuel Davis, an expert from Charter Communications, delivered a presentation on the application of artificial intelligence in the energy sector. During the Q&A session, participants discussed the practical aspects of implementing AI in the industry. A question-and-answer session was also held between the foreign specialist, faculty members, and students on the implementation of artificial intelligence in the energy sector.


Turkmen students performed successfully at NCUMC-2026 in St. Petersburg

Students from universities in Turkmenistan successfully performed at the 12th International Mathematical Olympiad of Northern Universities (NCUMC-2026), held in St. Petersburg at the ITMO University. More than 500 students from Russia, Uzbekistan, Austria, Poland, the United Kingdom, Germany, and other countries took part in the competition, the IIC reports. Students of the Oguz Khan Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan demonstrated strong results. Under the supervision of lecturer Eziz Kakyshev, third-year student Gulovser Gylychmammedova won a silver medal, while first-year student Döwletgeldi Shakirdzhanov earned a bronze medal. Silver awards were also received by representatives of the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas — Islam Khaitymukhammedov and Khalmyrat Myratgeldiyev. In addition, awards were earned by students from the Turkmen State Institute of Economics and Management, the International University for the Humanities and Development, the S.A. Niyazov Turkmen Agricultural University, the Institute of Engineering and Technical Transport Communications, and the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan. The achievements of Turkmen students at the international Olympiad confirmed the level of training and the effectiveness of educational programs aimed at developing scientific and engineering competencies.


Workshops on AI and content creation were held in Ashgabat

A series of workshops on content creation and the use of digital tools, including artificial intelligence, was held in Ashgabat from April 29 to May 6. The venue was the training center of the Bouygues Turkmen company. This was reported by the publication “Turkmenistan: The Golden Age”. The events were organized with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the European Union, and the CARAVAN media project. Participants included journalists, lecturers, and students from relevant higher education institutions. At the opening ceremony, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Turkmenistan Maciej Madalinski emphasized the role of media literacy and the development of a balanced media environment in the EU’s regional strategy. During the sessions, changes in the media landscape driven by artificial intelligence were discussed. The impact of social media algorithms on information distribution and issues of authorship responsibility were also addressed. The trainings were conducted by experts from Kazakhstan, Gulim Amirkhanova and Aiganym Amirbekova. The program marked the second phase of the CARAVAN media project in Ashgabat. Previously, in autumn 2025, a similar workshop on AI and media literacy was held in the capital.


The Turkmen Institute will hold an online conference dedicated to City Day

On May 21, the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Construction will host an International Scientific and Practical Conference titled “The White City of Ashgabat — a Masterpiece of Architectural Art, a Center of Scientific Innovation.” The event is dedicated to Ashgabat City Day, according to the publication “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”. The conference will be held online in Turkmen, Russian, and English. It will bring together scientists, lecturers, postgraduate researchers, students, and staff from research institutions, as well as engineers and specialists from Turkmenistan and other countries. The program includes four thematic areas: architectural and construction innovations; architecture, design, and urban planning; digital technologies and the construction economy; ecology, safety, and alternative energy. Applications for participation are accepted until May 15. Participants are required to submit an application form, abstracts, and a summary to the organizing committee via email. The aim of the conference is to exchange scientific experience and develop international cooperation.


Turkmen students and faculty became prize-winners of an innovation competition

Students and faculty from Turkmen universities secured second place at the 2nd Global Sustainability Innovation Competition (GSIC 2026). The forum was held on April 17–19 in Denpasar (Bali, Indonesia). This was reported by the publication “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”. Representatives from 12 countries took part in the competition. Turkmenistan was represented by teams from the S. A. Niyazov Turkmen Agricultural University and the State Medical University of Turkmenistan named after Myrat Garryyev. The Agricultural University team presented a project titled “Design and Optimization of an Autonomous Solar Distillation System for Arid Regions.” The team included lecturer Meretmukhammet Hodjanepesov, master’s student Yaran Khudayberdiev, and student Batyr Khudayberdiev. The work focused on environmental sustainability and received high praise from the jury. Fourth-year students from the Medical University presented the project “Solutions to Environmental Problems of the Aral Sea” under the supervision of a lecturer from the Department of Medical Ecology and Hygiene. Experts noted the practical relevance of the study. As a result of the competition, both teams took second place. Participants were awarded diplomas and silver medals.


Turkmen university studies educational technologies in China

From April 23 to May 2, a delegation from the Seyitnazar Seydi Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute was on a working visit to the People’s Republic of China, according to the publication “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”. The purpose of the trip was to exchange experience and study modern educational technologies. Special attention was given to laboratory equipment planned for installation in the institute’s new building complex. During the visit, the university representatives visited specialized companies, as well as Shandong and Beijing Pedagogical Universities. Approaches to teaching and the use of modern equipment were discussed. The materials obtained are expected to be used to update the institute’s scientific and methodological base and to introduce new solutions into the educational process. It was noted that the visit is aimed at developing cooperation in the field of digital education and improving the compliance of the university’s infrastructure with international standards.


Turkmen students have been recognised at an academic competition in Russia

Second-year students S. Hojaniyazova and R. Miriyeva from the Faculty of Agronomy at the Turkmen Agricultural Institute took second place at the international student competition ‘Environmental Safety’. The competition was organised by Ufa State Petroleum Technological University (Russian Federation), according to the university’s website. The academic supervisor was H. A. Kazakova, a lecturer at the Department of Horticulture and Vegetable Growing. A celebratory event was held at the Faculty of Agronomy in honour of the victory. The students were presented with commemorative gifts from the university branch of the Magtymguly Youth Organisation.


Students from Turkmenistan won prizes at the NCUMC-2026 competition

From 26 to 28 April, St Petersburg hosted the 12th International Mathematics Competition for University Students from Northern Countries (NCUMC-2026). Turkmen students secured prize-winning places, according to the website of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan. Islam Hayitmuhammedov and Halmyrat Myratgeldiyev, students at the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas, took second place in the individual competition and were awarded silver medals. Shohrat Bayramov, a fourth-year student at the Institute of Engineering and Transport Communications of Turkmenistan, took third place. The competition was held at the National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics. Students from Austria, the United Kingdom, Poland, Slovenia, Italy, Spain, Germany and France took part.


The Minister of Education of Turkmenistan met with the new Egyptian Ambassador

On 28 April, the Minister of Education of Turkmenistan, Jumamyrat Gurbangeldiyev, held a meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Egypt to Turkmenistan, Hamdy Shaaban Abdelhalim Mohammed. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan. The parties discussed the development of cooperation in the field of education. The Turkmen side provided information on reforms in the education system, the development of digital technologies and improvements in the teaching of foreign languages and the exact sciences. Issues discussed included expanding the legal framework for cooperation, launching exchange programmes for students and teachers, and holding joint seminars and research projects, including in the field of artificial intelligence. Egypt proposed stepping up contacts between universities, providing quotas for Turkmen students, and organising short-term courses on international relations and the Arabic language. Following the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to implement joint initiatives.


Turkmenistan is represented at the ‘DARYA SCAFFOLD’ international seminar in Almaty

Representatives from Turkmenistan are taking part in the three-day international training seminar ‘DARYA SCAFFOLD’, taking place from 27 to 29 April in Almaty. This was reported by the press office of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan. The Turkmen delegation consists of eight participants, including staff from the Ministry of Education, as well as heads and teachers from educational institutions. The event aims to enhance the professional skills of teachers, modernise educational processes and introduce contemporary approaches to teaching. The seminar is organised as part of the DARYA initiative, with the support of the European Union and the European Education Foundation, and brings together participants from Central Asian countries. During the event, participants are studying the practical SCAFFOLD tools, taking part in interactive sessions and exchanging experiences. Following the event, plans are in place to develop professional development programmes for teachers, tools to assess their effectiveness, and plans to implement the solutions gained into educational practice across the region.


Turkmenistan is exploring a partnership with the Apple Developer Academy in Naples

Turkmenistan is exploring the possibility of collaborating with the Apple Developer Academy at the University of Naples Federico II. The prospects for the partnership were discussed by the country’s Ambassador to Italy, Toyly Komekov, and the academy’s scientific director, Giorgio Ventre, according to IIC Turkmenistan. The talks focused on the training of IT specialists. The academy’s programme emphasises practical skills: mobile app development, design and the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. The Ambassador also met with the university’s rector, Matteo Lorito. The parties discussed cooperation in the fields of agriculture, sustainable development and science, as well as the updating of the legal framework. Following the meetings, the parties agreed to exchange visits to work out the details of joint projects.


Cooperation with ‘PETRONAS’ was discussed at Turkmenistan’s oil and gas university

A meeting was held at the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas with a delegation from ‘PETRONAS Çarigali (Turkmenistan) Sdn Bhd’ and PETRONAS University of Technology, focusing on the development of academic cooperation. This was reported by the online newspaper ‘Nebit-Gaz’. The university’s rector, Bayrammyrat Atamanov, presented the university’s structure, educational programmes and achievements, highlighting the integration of modern scientific developments into the teaching process. Students and lecturers undertake online courses on cutting-edge oil and gas technologies, as well as participating in internships in Malaysia. It was noted that the Memorandum of Understanding, signed in November 2024, was the fourth agreement between the parties and is aimed at expanding cooperation in science and education. The PETRONAS delegation confirmed its interest in joint research, proposing the development of scientific projects and publications. There are also plans to continue educational programmes involving PETRONAS University professors in relevant fields.
