Vladimir Petruk: ‘Construction of the metro in Ashgabat is a step towards a sustainable and innovative city’

Vladimir Petruk, Managing Director of Interbudmontazh, spoke at the XXIV International Exhibition and Conference ‘White City Ashgabat’. He thanked the leadership of Turkmenistan for the opportunity to participate in the authoritative international platform, which promotes the development of partnerships and exchange of professional experience, IIC reports. The initiative to build an underground in Ashgabat was highlighted among the promising areas. Petruk recalled that on the instructions of the President of Turkmenistan in 2014 the development of a feasibility study of the project with the involvement of Japanese, Austrian and American specialists was launched. The planned metro is seen as an element of a sustainable transport system capable of connecting Ashgabat with the new city of Arkadag in the future. In addition, the company is taking part in the construction of a regulating hydraulic structure on the Karakum Canal in partnership with the Australian firm Rubicon. The aim of the project is to ensure sustainable water supply to the capital and support the development of agriculture in the country. In conclusion, Vladimir Petruk expressed interest in further participation of Interbudmontazh in key infrastructure initiatives of Turkmenistan. He stressed the importance of a systematic project approach taking into account the seismic conditions of the region, and also noted that such forums as ‘White City Ashgabat’ serve as a catalyst for major projects and expand the horizons of international cooperation.


UN-Habitat praises Ashgabat's achievements in sustainable development

Turkmenistan and Iran discuss expansion of gas transit and investment in petrochemicals

Turkmenistan is considering the possibility of increasing the volume of natural gas transit through Iran as part of the strategy to diversify export routes. Turkmenistan at the Tehran Dialogue Forum: transport corridors and energy cooperation

A dialogue forum organised by the Center for Political and International Studies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran was held in Tehran on 18-19 May. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov took part in the event. This is reported by the IIC. In a panel discussion on the role of transport corridors in the development of Eurasia, Meredov stressed the importance of transport and logistics connectivity for sustainable growth and regional cooperation. He presented Turkmenistan's initiative ‘Revival of the Great Silk Road’ as an important tool of Eurasian integration, and also spoke about the development of national infrastructure, modernisation of Caspian ports and participation in transit projects with Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Iran. The Turkmen Foreign Affairs Minister noted the country's contribution to the promotion of sustainable transport, recalling the holding of the first UN Global Conference on this topic in Ashgabat in 2016. Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan met with ADB Director

The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with the Director of the Asian Development Bank's Representative Office in Turkmenistan Arthur Andrysiak in the city of Arkadag. The parties noted 25 years of successful experience of cooperation and discussed the implementation of the new Partnership Strategy for 2024-2028, paying special attention to the issues of ‘green’ economy and structural transformation. Turkmenistan increases cargo turnover and modernises infrastructure

In January-April 2025, transit cargo turnover in Turkmenistan increased by almost 20% compared to the same period last year. Road transport increased by 25%, railway transport - by 6%. This is reported by the news agency ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’. In total, more than 2 million tonnes of cargo transited the border. The growth of indicators was ensured by measures to develop transport infrastructure, expand logistics corridors and create conditions for uninterrupted transit.
