The gross domestic product (GDP) of Turkmenistan grew by 6.3 per cent in January–May 2025. This was announced by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Hojamyrat Geldimyradov during a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, according to the state news agency TDH. The Deputy Prime Minister reported on macroeconomic indicators, noting steady growth in a number of sectors. Growth was recorded in industry (0.8%), construction (4.7%), transport and communications (10.8%), trade (9.9%), agriculture (4%) and services (8.6%). The total volume of production increased by 9.7% compared to the same period last year. H. Geldimyradov also noted a 12.5% increase in retail trade turnover and a 5.4% increase in foreign trade turnover. The revenue side of the state budget was executed at 101.2%, while the expenditure side was executed at 97.6%. The average wage at large and medium-sized enterprises increased by 11.4%. Pensions, benefits and scholarships were financed in a timely manner. The volume of investments increased by 16.3%. After listening to the report, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted the need to ensure sustainable economic growth and maintain the set GDP growth rates until the end of the year. The Head of State instructed to keep the implementation of state programmes under control and focused attention on the main task of the government – improving the living standards of the population. A Turkmen-Mongolian business forum dedicated to strengthening trade and economic partnership between the two countries was held within the framework of Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov's state visit to Mongolia. During last week, 23 deals totalling over 1 million 367 thousand US dollars and over 88 million 437 thousand manats were concluded at the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan. In the first four months of the current year, the volume of non-cash payments through ‘Internet-bank’ and ‘Mobil-bank’ totalled more than 13.9 thousand manats, and the total volume of non-cash payments was 6.7 billion manats, which is 35% more than in the same period last year.
A unique copper cable factory for Turkmenistan has started up in the village of Onaldy in the Ahal region. The plant recycles scrap metal and old wires, turning them into high-quality cable products through three stages: crushing, cleaning and melting at temperatures above 1180°C. This was reported by IIC. The production capacity is 10 tonnes per day, with the prospect of increasing to 5,000 tonnes per year. The plant produces two types of cables: flexible (for mobile equipment) and rigid (for stationary facilities). All products meet strict quality standards, including 99% copper. The 10-hectare site houses modern workshops equipped with machinery from the Chinese company Ji Cheng Technology. The automated process is controlled from a central control panel, and each batch undergoes laboratory testing.
