Non-cash payments in Turkmenistan exceeded 6.7 billion manats in 2025
12.06.2025From January to March 2025, the total volume of non-cash transactions using bank cards in Turkmenistan exceeded 6 billion 773 million manats. This was reported by the online publication ‘Business Turkmenistan’, citing the electronic publication ‘Bank habarlary’, issued by the country's Central Bank. The majority of transactions were payments via POS terminals — 5 billion 756 billion 232 thousand. According to information from the Central Bank of Turkmenistan, as part of the development of digital services during the same period, transactions worth over 736 million 113 thousand manats were made via the E-Commerce platform. More than 12 million 189 thousand manats were processed through mobile banking applications. In addition, non-cash payments amounting to more than 75 million 339 thousand manats were made through the Halkbank terminal system.
Large-scale work is underway in Turkmenistan to modernise the trading system

One of the significant steps in this direction has been the introduction of a barcode system, under which tens of thousands of product names have already been labelled accordingly, reports the state news agency TDH. The country's accession to the international GSI (Global Standard) system confirms its status as a reliable and responsible participant in global trade and economic partnership. Given the growth in production volumes and increased demand for Turkmen goods, the use of barcodes opens up new opportunities for the development of foreign trade, expansion of the export range and strengthening of economic ties with foreign countries. The transition to a market economy has contributed to the development of new forms of trade, including through commodity exchanges. The State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan (SCRMET) plays a key role in this area, analysing the validity of imports and exports, controlling the formation of prices for export products and focusing on the tasks set by the Head of State. The SCRMET actively studies international experience and applies it to stimulate foreign economic activity and strengthen Turkmenistan's position in the global economy. The legislative framework governing its activities is also being developed in line with modern requirements. In the first five months of this year, the SCRMET held 124 trade sessions, during which 11,714 contracts were concluded.

11.06.2025The 9th Moscow International Festival ‘Sounds of the Dutar’ named after Nury Halmamedov in 2025 will be held under the banner of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and in support of the International Year of Peace and Trust. As part of these memorable dates, the organisers have announced the creation of a new special award named after Myrat Sadykov, an outstanding Turkmen singer, People's Artist of the Turkmen SSR and prominent public figure. This was reported by the news resource TerraNews. The award will be given for the best performance of musical works dedicated to military themes or created by composers who participated in the Great Patriotic War. The award covers both vocal and ensemble-choir nominations and aims to preserve historical memory through music and promote cultural heritage related to the military pages of history. The festival's organising committee emphasised that the new award will harmoniously complement the existing system of awards, including the ‘Nadezhda’ scholarships for students and the named awards named after Nury Halmamedov, Medeniyet Shahberdiyeva and Maya Kuliyeva. The Turkmenistan national team defeated Thailand in a qualifying match for the 2027 Asian Cup
11.06.2025The qualifying match for the 2027 Asian Cup took place in Ashgabat, in which the Turkmenistan national team confidently defeated the Thai team with a score of 3:1. The Turkmenistan national team started the match with a clear advantage: in the 36th second, Mihail Titov opened the scoring, taking advantage of a mistake by the opposing defenders. Thailand managed to equalise in the 35th minute when Supachai Chaided took advantage of the moment to restore parity. Rashid Meredov declared Turkmenistan's readiness to strengthen ties with India
11.06.2025Turkmenistan's Foreign Affairs Minister Rashid Meredov has confirmed Ashgabat's desire to strengthen and expand cooperation with India. He made this statement on 6 June during a meeting of the heads of foreign affairs agencies of Central Asian countries with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. During the talks, special attention was paid to key areas of bilateral cooperation. According to R. Meredov, a constructive dialogue has been established between Turkmenistan and India at the highest level, which creates favourable conditions for deepening political and economic ties. The minister stressed that the countries have significant potential for increasing trade turnover, expanding Indian investment in the Turkmen economy, and implementing joint projects in the fields of transport, energy, industry, digital technologies, healthcare and pharmaceuticals. One of the priority areas of cooperation was the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, the implementation of which, according to the parties, is of strategic importance for ensuring the region's energy security. The development of the North-South International Transport Corridor was also discussed. At the end of the meeting, Rashid Meredov conveyed greetings and best wishes to the Prime Minister of India on behalf of the Turkmen leadership and expressed Turkmenistan's readiness to deepen partnership with India on the basis of mutual respect and interests.
UNICEF summer school begins in Turkmenistan
11.06.2025A youth summer school on climate change has begun in Turkmenistan, according to the online publication Big Asia. Participants have already held their first training session. Over the course of several weeks, more than 30 participants from across the country will study topics related to climate change, water resource management and disaster risk reduction. The programme also includes the development of leadership and negotiation skills for participation in the climate agenda at the national and international levels. Turkmen farmers have begun receiving John Deere sprayers
11.06.2025Turkmen farmers have begun receiving modern M732i trailer-mounted sprayers from John Deere, designed for applying fertilisers and protecting crops from pests. This was reported by the online news resource TerraNews. The model can be aggregated with John Deere, CLAAS and MTZ tractors and is controlled via an electronic system. The working width reaches 24 metres, with the possibility of adjustment to 6, 12 and 18 metres. The tank capacity is 3,200 litres, and the weight of the fully loaded sprayer is about 7 tonnes. The equipment allows the track width to be adjusted depending on the row spacing (60, 75 or 90 cm) and ensures accurate solution dosing. To demonstrate the capabilities of the new product, a seminar was held in Lebap velayat with the participation of industry experts and agricultural students. The equipment has already been sent to farms to begin field work.
The President of Turkmenistan congratulated participants on the start of ‘TurkmenTextile Expo – 2025’

Turkmenistan youth team is participating in the CAFA-2025 championship
11.06.2025The Turkmenistan U20 national team is participating in the CAFA Championship, which started on 10 June and will be held in the Tajik cities of Gissar and Tursunzade. Six teams will play in the tournament, divided into two groups. This was reported by the online publication ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’. According to the results of the draw, the Turkmen team is in Group B, where its rivals will be the national teams of Iran and Uzbekistan. An exhibition has opened in Turkmenistan ahead of Science Day
11.06.2025On the eve of Science Day, celebrated on 12 June, a unique exhibition entitled ‘Science – the wealth of mankind’ opened at the State Museum of the State Cultural Centre in the capital of Turkmenistan. Among the guests of honour at the exhibition were well-known figures from the worlds of science and culture: Professor Nuryagdy Shikhanov of the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas, Honoured Artist Azat Annayev and poet Oguljemal Charyeva. Visitors were particularly interested in rare geological samples, including deposits of limestone, marble onyx, chalcedony and other valuable minerals. The real gems of the exhibition were unique paleontological finds – fossilised remains of ancient sea creatures, as well as a golden bull's head from the famous Altyn-depe archaeological site. The exhibition concludes with a section devoted to modern scientific achievements, featuring the latest publications by scientists, including the latest issue of the journal ‘Ylym we tehnika’ (‘Science and Technology’). Special attention is paid to portraits of outstanding Turkmen scientists whose work has made a significant contribution to the development of national science. The exhibition clearly demonstrates the rich scientific heritage of Turkmenistan and its modern achievements, confirming the wisdom of Eastern thinkers about the value of knowledge.
Winners of competition in honour of World Environment Day awarded in Turkmenistan
10.06.2025Awards were presented in Ashgabat to participants in a creative competition dedicated to the preservation of biodiversity in the country's specially protected natural areas. The competition was organised as part of the international project ‘Conservation and Sustainable Management of Land Resources and High Nature Value Ecosystems in The Aral Sea Basin for Multiple Benefits’, which is being implemented by the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme and the Global Environment Facility. The event was timed to coincide with World Environment Day on 5 June. This was reported by the online publication ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’. First place went to Dilnaza Sapaeva from Dashoguz velayat with her artwork ‘Beautiful Nature’. Second place went to Rahmet Toymuradov, a student at the Oguz Khan University of Engineering and Technology, with his composition ‘Animal Tracks,’ and Maria Bekzhanova from Dashoguz velayat with her drawing ‘Life is Nature.’ Third place went to Bibipatma Mammedova from Dashoguz for her work ‘Nature is Life’ and Iskander Annamuhammedov for his drawing ‘The Importance of Biodiversity Conservation.’ The organisers plan to use the best entries to decorate information stands in the Amudarya and Kaplankyr state nature reserves. This project contributes to environmental education and raises awareness of issues related to the protection of Turkmenistan's unique nature.
