Turkmenistan and Niger held telephone talks on prospects for cooperation

During the conversation, the parties discussed opportunities for expanding partnership in various areas of mutual interest. This was reported by the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Turkmenistan. Particular attention was paid to the importance of establishing regular dialogue between the foreign ministries of the two countries. The Ministers noted the alignment of positions on key issues of the international agenda. A significant part of the talks was devoted to preparations for the Third Conference of Landlocked Developing Countries, which will be held in Turkmenistan in August 2025. The sides confirmed their readiness for constructive interaction within the framework of this important international forum. At the end of the talks, the diplomats agreed to continue consultations on topical issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.


Turkmenistan and Burkina Faso discussed expanding bilateral cooperation

On 1 July this year, a telephone conversation took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, and his counterpart from Burkina Faso, Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré. During the talks, the parties discussed prospects for the development of interstate relations in the political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres. This was reported by the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Turkmenistan. Special attention was paid to preparations for the Third Conference of Landlocked Developing Countries, which will be held in August 2025 in the Turkmen national tourist zone ‘Avaza’. The ministers also discussed opportunities for cooperation within international organisations, including the UN and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. The parties noted the significant potential for deepening the partnership between the two countries and agreed to continue consultations on pressing issues on the bilateral and multilateral agenda.

On 30 June, in Porto (Portugal), within the framework of the 32nd session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country, held an event on the theme ‘International Year of Peace and Trust: Strengthening Multilateralism for a Secure and Sustainable Future’. This was reported by the press service of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan. The event was attended by representatives of the Mejlis, the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Turkmenistan, the OSCE PA leadership, as well as delegations from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Italy, France, Spain and the Netherlands. The Turkmen side presented the priorities of its peaceful humanitarian policy, emphasising the role of neutrality in ensuring peace, security, sustainable development, transport corridors, environmental protection and public diplomacy. The participants stressed the significance of the meeting in the International Year of Peace and Trust, which coincided with the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality, as well as the importance of the country's initiatives in the UN to maintain peace and sustainable development. OSCE PA President Pia Kauma noted the contribution of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan to regional conferences and inter-parliamentary dialogue. Special Representative for Central Asia Farah Karimi highlighted the role of such events in strengthening regional stability. Overall, the participants supported Turkmenistan's policy of positive neutrality as an important contribution to international cooperation, security and stability in the region. 


The Foreign Affairs Ministry of Turkmenistan issued a statement for the media

Turkmenistan acts on the international stage in strict accordance with international law and fulfils its obligations under agreements in good faith and consistently, according to the press service of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Turkmenistan. The Foreign Affairs Ministry denied media reports about alleged claims by the public joint-stock company Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), stressing that the dispute with the Russian company had been initiated by MTS. The Turkmen side took all possible steps to resolve the conflict peacefully. Nevertheless, in 2018, MTS filed a lawsuit in international arbitration. The ICSID tribunal ultimately dismissed all charges against Turkmenistan, recognising the country's actions as lawful and awarding it more than $11 million in compensation for legal costs. MTS later attempted to appeal the decision in Sweden, but on 27 June 2025, the Svea Court of Appeal upheld the arbitration award and ordered the company to pay Turkmenistan an additional €589,000. The court ruling is final and cannot be appealed. The Foreign Affairs Ministry of Turkmenistan emphasised that the outcome of the proceedings confirmed the legitimacy and good faith of the country's position.


Turkmenistan and Sri Lanka discussed the development of business contacts

The festive atmosphere was accompanied by music and performances by creative groups. Residents shared their impressions of the “smart” technologies that make life as comfortable as possible. Motion sensors regulate lighting in rooms, automatic curtains adjust to light and weather conditions, and security systems prevent accidents and are controlled remotely. The new residents expressed their gratitude to the country's leadership for their attention to the well-being of citizens and for creating conditions for a comfortable life.

On 29 June, celebrations and a conference dedicated to the second anniversary of its founding were held in the city of Arkadag. This was reported by the state news agency TDH. Forum participants discussed issues of digital and environmental transformation, noted the high level of medical and social facilities that meet international standards, as well as the contribution of the private sector to the development of the city. A festive concert with performances by national and foreign artists was held on ‘Arkadag Binasy’ Square. The event ended with a song sung by all participants, setting a festive and solemn mood. The city of Arkadag is built on historic Turkmen land and combines modern digital, environmentally friendly and communication technologies with traditional national architecture. In two years, the city has received international awards for innovation and ecology, including the main prize at the ‘World Smart City Expo 2024’ in South Korea.
