WHO training course on zoonotic disease prevention for trainers launched in Turkmenistan

From 26 to 30 May 2025, the Public Health and Nutrition Centre of Turkmenistan is hosting a training for national trainers on prevention, surveillance and treatment of zoonotic diseases. The event is organised with the support of the WHO Country Office in Turkmenistan within the framework of the Pandemic Fund project aimed at strengthening pandemic preparedness through a ‘One Health’ approach in Central Asia. It is reported by IIC. The participants of the course were specialists of the State Veterinary Service under the Ministry of Agriculture and the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of the Ministry of Health of Turkmenistan. Professor Natalia Pshenichnaya, WHO international consultant on zoonosis control, conducts the classes. According to Arslan Soltanmyradov, Head of the International and Scientific Relations Department of the State Veterinary Service, the course plays a key role in strengthening the country's capacity to control zoonoses, which contributes to improving epidemiological well-being and protecting human and animal health. The main objective of the training is to train national trainers, who will subsequently conduct cascade trainings for specialists at regional and local levels.


Universities of Turkmenistan and France considered areas of partnership

A meeting with representatives of the University of Le Havre (France) was held at the Magtymguly Turkmen State University on 23 May. Vice-Rector of the University of Le Havre Jean-Noel Castorio and Director of International Relations Pierrot Barthelemy visited the Turkmen university, the press service of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan reported. Turkmen Carpet Day widely celebrated in Turkmenistan

Honorary titles awarded to carpet weaving masters in Turkmenistan

By the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, outstanding carpet weavers of the country were awarded the honourable title ‘Türkmenistanyň at gazanan halyçysy’ ('Honored Carpet Maker of Turkmenistan'). According to the document, this measure is timed to coincide with the Turkmen Carpet Holiday and is aimed at recognising the significant contribution of carpet weavers to the preservation and development of the ancient art of carpet weaving - an important part of the world cultural heritage and the pride of the Turkmen people. Turkmenistan and South Korea signed contract to build new fertilizer plant

The state concern ‘Türkmenhimiýa’ has made an important step in the development of the country's chemical industry by signing a large-scale contract with the South Korean company ‘Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd’. The agreement provides for the design and construction of a modern production complex to produce mineral fertilisers on the basis of Turkmenabat Chemical Plant. The event has become one of the key events in the celebration of the City Day, bringing together leading enterprises of the country to demonstrate innovative achievements. The guests of the exhibition were able to appreciate the new line of portable tablets based on Android with screen diagonals of 10, 12 and 13 inches. Turkmenistan signed an agreement with China to purchase innovative municipal equipment

Ashgabat has taken an important step in modernising its urban economy by signing a $60 million contract with the Chinese company Zoomlion. Under the agreement, the capital of Turkmenistan will receive a fleet of specialised vehicles capable of working in extreme conditions - in 45-degree heat and sandstorms. Turkmennebit's drillers demonstrate steady dynamics

The ‘Nebitgazburawlaýyş’ Trust of the ‘Turkmennebit’ State Concern continues to make a significant contribution to the implementation of the ‘Programme for the Development of the Oil and Gas Industry of Turkmenistan until 2030.’ According to the electronic newspaper ‘Nebit-gaz,’ geological exploration and drilling works are actively carried out at a number of sites in the Balkan province. Based on the data published on the official website of the Concern, in January-April 2025, the specialists of the trust have drilled 55,910 metres of underground rocks, which is 100.4% of the planned indicator. Thirteen wells were put into operation, of which four wells were commissioned in April alone. Subdivisions of the Drilling Operations Department are also demonstrating productive dynamics: Drillers of the Drilling Department ‘Nebitdag’: 10,357 metres of drilling, five productive wells. Drillers of the Drilling Department ‘Goturdepe’: overfulfilment of the plan by 2,606 metres, drilling of four wells was completed. Drillers of the Drilling Department ‘Körpeje’: over 11,000 metres of drilling, three wells completed. Drillers of the Drilling Department ‘Ekerem’: 112 per cent of plan fulfilment, one well commissioned. The source notes that these results emphasise the high production discipline and technical equipment of the drilling teams, which make a significant contribution to building up the country's resource base.
