From 12 to 14 November, Ashgabat will host the International Exhibition and Conference ‘Turkmentel – 2025’, dedicated to telecommunications, telemetry and digital technologies. The event will discuss the development of cooperation in the fields of digital transformation, cybersecurity, satellite communications and state digital development strategy. FAO promotes aquaculture development in Turkmenistan

The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) is actively promoting the development of aquaculture in Turkmenistan, according to the news agency Orient. As part of a technical cooperation programme, two seminars were held in Ashgabat to train local farmers and veterinarians on aquatic animal health and fish farm design. The FAO uses a comprehensive approach, combining feeding, veterinary care and sound farm design, which contributes to increased efficiency, reduced costs and enhanced food security. On 16 July, a seminar on disease prevention in fish was held, where participants gained knowledge on diagnosis and risk management. On 17 July, a workshop on aquaculture systems design was held, covering everything from ponds and tanks to hatcheries, including biosecurity and production management. These initiatives lay the foundation for the sustainable development of the sector, contributing to economic growth and improved livelihoods in rural areas.


Ashgabat will host international exhibition and conference on transport corridors

Turkmen racers lead the way at the Silk Way Rally

At the 2025 Silk Way Rally, taking place on the harsh tracks of Mongolia, there has been a turning point in the battle for leadership in the T2 production off-road vehicle class. Turkmen racer Maksatmyrat Danatarov, who had been leading the standings for a long time, lost the top spot to his compatriot Merdan Toylyev, according to the news agency Orient. The key moment came in the ninth special stage, where Danatarov received a 21-hour penalty for failing to complete the section, while Toylyev successfully completed the route and took the lead. Meylis Abdullayev moved up to second place, and Danatarov's lead grew to 14 hours. Earlier, the T2 crews made a tactical decision to bypass the difficult sands of Mongol-Els, receiving a standard penalty but saving their equipment. However, this did not prevent dramatic changes in the subsequent stages. There are still two days of racing ahead and the finish line in Gorno-Altaysk. The Turkmen crews continue to fight, demonstrating a high level of preparation and strengthening the country's image in international motorsport.


Products of Turkish manufacturers to be presented in Ashgabat

Turkmenistan strengthens ties with international security organisations

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Rashid Meredov reported on the development of cooperation with international security structures during a government meeting on 18 July, according to the state news agency TDH. The country continues to fulfil its international obligations on nuclear non-proliferation and is considering joining the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (2017). It is also proposed to hold a seminar in 2026 with the participation of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO). Plans include strengthening cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and improving work with the MSM seismic station. After hearing the report, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov instructed that the proposed initiatives be implemented.


An official LLDC 3 mobile app has been launched in Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan and Czech Republic discussed preparations for UN Conference in Avaza

The ‘Farap’ Sanatorium – a gem of Turkmen resort recreation

Turkmenistan's natural resources may be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List

On 16 July, a significant meeting with international and national experts was held at the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan. The event was held in a hybrid format, bringing together representatives of the Michael Succow Foundation (Germany), Conservation X Labs (USA), the Slovak Speleological Society, as well as relevant agencies and nature reserves of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. The main topic of discussion was the preparation of a transboundary nomination of the Koytendag (Turkmenistan) and Surkhan (Uzbekistan) nature reserves as a single UNESCO World Heritage Site. This initiative has been a priority for Turkmenistan since 2015. Initially, the application concerned only Koytendag, but experts recommended joining forces with Uzbekistan to preserve the integrity of the mountain ecosystem. During the meeting, the participants agreed on a Declaration of Intent, a Roadmap and the criteria of the World Heritage Convention. The text of the Tentative List was also approved under a new name - ‘Karst, Caves and Canyons of the Kugitang Range’. Despite being divided by a state border, the Kugitang Range is a unique ecosystem with karst formations, hundreds of caves and deep canyons. Evidence of all major geological eras has been preserved here, including globally significant dinosaur footprints. Further work on the nomination will continue with the involvement of international and national experts, which will allow this unique natural heritage to be presented to the world.


Turkmenistan discusses National Strategy on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency

On 18 July, the second round table on finalising the National Strategy for Raising Public Awareness of the Benefits of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and Energy Efficiency was held at the ‘Ýyldyz’ Hotel in Ashgabat. The event was supported by the EU project ‘Political Dialogue and Climate Action 2024-2028’, implemented by GIZ and co-financed by the EU and the German Foreign Affairs Ministry. The meeting was dedicated to discussing comments from ministries for finalising the document, taking into account national priorities, and agreeing on the final version. The strategy will serve as a roadmap for effectively informing the population of Turkmenistan about renewable energy and energy efficiency, contributing to the country's environmental and economic development.
