Geneva considers Turkmenistan's accession to the WTO and preparations for LLDC 3

Chairwoman of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan held a meeting with the Ambassador of Pakistan
20.07.2025On 18 July, Chairwoman of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Dunyagozel Gulmanova held a meeting with Faryal Leghari, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Turkmenistan. This was reported by the press service of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan. During the meeting, the importance of Turkmenistan's initiatives to adopt UN resolutions ‘2025 - International Year of Peace and Trust’ and ‘Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan’ was noted, and gratitude was expressed to Pakistan for its support. The Ambassador was briefed on the key areas of Turkmenistan's foreign policy, its parliamentary structure and legislative work within the framework of socio-economic reforms. The sides emphasised their readiness to exchange experience and expand cooperation to strengthen friendship between the countries and peoples.
Turkmenistan considers accession to OECD international agreements
19.07.2025Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Hojamyrat Geldimyradov reported on steps to strengthen cooperation with international organisations during a government meeting on 18 July. This was reported by the state news agency TDH. According to a Decree by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the Ministry of Finance and Economy has studied the possibility of Turkmenistan joining a number of documents of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), including the Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters and the Multilateral Competent Authority Agreement on Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information. The relevant proposal was submitted to the Head of State for consideration. After hearing the report, the President of Turkmenistan stressed the importance of developing international partnerships and improving legislation, approved the proposal on Turkmenistan's accession to a number of OECD documents and instructed the Deputy Prime Minister to continue work in this direction.
Turkmenistan and Armenia strengthen parliamentary dialogue
19.07.2025On 18 July, a video conference was held between members of the interparliamentary friendship group between the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. This was reported by the press service of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan. During the conversation, the parties noted that interparliamentary dialogue has become an important part of deepening cooperation between the two countries and that the creation of interparliamentary friendship groups on a bilateral basis increases opportunities for the exchange of experience in legislative work and the development of parliamentary diplomacy. The parties expressed their readiness to support inter-state cooperation through parliamentary diplomacy, strengthen the legal basis of these relations and exchange experience in parliamentary and legislative work, which will be of great importance in organising business trips and meetings in the further development of relations between the two states.
Embassy reminds Turkmen citizens in the United States about immigration policy

The statement emphasises the need to monitor the validity of visas and residence permits, renew documents in a timely manner and obtain work permits in accordance with US law. Violation of the rules can lead to serious consequences, ranging from deportation and entry bans to visa refusals and detention. The embassy recommends resolving immigration status issues in advance and registering with the consulate to obtain legal protection, access to services and participate in elections abroad.
Turkmenistan appoints Ambassador to Thailand
19.07.2025Muhammetniyaz Mashalov has been appointed as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Thailand, with residence in Kuala Lumpur. Turkmenistan strengthens measures to protect citizens' health
19.07.2025In order to strengthen the spiritual and physical health of the population, improve the well-being of citizens and increase life expectancy, the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, signed a Decree approving the National Programme for the Prevention of Harmful Effects of Alcohol in Turkmenistan for 2025–2028. This was reported by the state news agency TDH. The document provides for the implementation of a set of measures aimed at protecting the health of citizens. An action plan for the implementation of the programme has also been approved. The implementation of the plan has been entrusted to ministries, relevant departments, and the administrations of velayats, the cities of Ashgabat and Arkadag.
Preparations for the UN LLDC3 Conference discussed at the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Turkmenistan
19.07.2025On 18 July 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held a working briefing on preparations for the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC 3). The event was attended by Heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Turkmenistan, as well as representatives of the Foreign Affairs Ministry. Meredov emphasised the special significance of the upcoming forum, which is held once a decade and will bring together Heads of State and Government, Heads of international organisations, financial institutions and representatives of the business community. Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister S. Muhammetdurdyev briefed the participants on the programme of the conference, which will be held from 5 to 8 August in the ‘Avaza’ National Tourist Zone. During the briefing, special attention was paid to organisational and protocol issues, as well as measures to strengthen coordination between all participants in the preparatory process. The participants noted that LLDC 3 will be an important platform for strengthening international cooperation in the interests of sustainable development of landlocked countries.
Countdown to UN LLDC 3 Conference in Turkmenistan begins
18.07.2025There are only a few days left until the start of one of the key international events of this summer – the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC 3). The largest forum will be hosted by the ‘Avaza’ National Tourist Zone from 4 to 8 August. A timer counting down to the start of the conference has been launched on the official website. This was reported by the online publication ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’. A specially created information portal for the conference is available in three languages: Turkmen, English and Russian. It contains the latest news about the event, as well as materials highlighting Turkmenistan's role in water, transport and environmental diplomacy. Ashgabat and Bucharest prepare for meeting of Intergovernmental Commission
18.07.2025The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Romania, Annamammet Annayev, held a meeting with the Vice-President of the Romanian Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade, Doru-Claudian Frunzulică. This was reported by the news agency Orient. The main focus was on preparations for the 8th meeting of the Turkmen-Romanian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, scheduled for autumn 2025. The parties confirmed their desire to develop cooperation in the fields of investment, trade, energy, transport and digital transformation. The Turkmen side invited Romanian businesses to participate in exhibitions and tenders, while the Romanian side presented investment proposals to Turkmen partners. Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan held a meeting with the Ambassador of Uzbekistan

The National Leader of the Turkmen people completed his foreign visit
18.07.2025As part of his visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited the cities of Fuzuli and Shusha. The trip included both business and cultural events, highlighting the high level of Turkmen-Azerbaijani relations, according to the news website Asmannews. Upon arrival at Baku International Airport, Hero Arkadag held talks with official representatives of Azerbaijan, during which the importance of the talks was noted and confidence was expressed in the further deepening of bilateral cooperation. The National Leader of the Turkmen people then headed to Fuzuli, where he was met by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. At the airport, information was presented on the region's air infrastructure, including new airports in Fuzuli, Lachin and Zangilan. The modernisation of Turkmenistan's aviation industry was also highlighted, including the development of the capital's airport and the renewal of the aircraft fleet. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Ilham Aliyev then headed to Shusha, where Hero Arkadag was presented with urban development projects in Fuzuli: residential neighbourhoods, schools, medical facilities and roads. The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty gave recommendations, which were positively received by the Azerbaijani side. In Shusha, the delegation visited a residential complex under construction, cultural heritage sites and historical monuments. Special attention was paid to the new mosque, which is being built with the participation of Italian and Azerbaijani architects, as well as the Arkadag city project as an example of ‘smart’ urban planning in Turkmenistan. One of the important symbolic moments was the visit to the Jidir Plain, a traditional venue for folk festivals. In honour of the visit, Hero Arkadag was presented with a Karabakh horse named Dostluk, which was perceived as a sign of strong friendship between the two peoples. The role of the Akhal-teke horses, a symbol of Turkmen identity, and Turkmenistan's efforts to preserve them were also highlighted. The delegation also visited the house-museum of the famous Azerbaijani opera singer Bulbul, the Govher Aga Mosque, the Mehmandarov house-museum and a photo exhibition dedicated to Heydar Aliyev. People's Artist of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan Polat Bulbuloglu gave a tour of the museum and expressed his gratitude for the attention paid to Azerbaijan's cultural heritage. The visit ended on the Jidir Plain, where horse shows were held. At the end of his visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan, the National Leader of the Turkmen people left for Fuzuli International Airport, from where he flew to Turkmenistan. The visit of Hero Arkadag was an important stage in the development of the strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, emphasising the closeness of cultures, common historical heritage and the course towards deepening cooperation.
